8.3 Lamp replacement
Lamp service life
The lamp service life is:
Halogen lamps: > 2000 h
Deuterium lamps: > 2000 h
Frequent switching on and off of the SPECORD PLUS reduces the service life of the lamps,
especially with the Deuterium lamp due to its relatively high ignition voltage. As a criterion for
the service life of the deuterium lamp the radiation intensity if switched once per day may
have dropped to 50 % after 1000 h.
The deuterium lamp must be replaced if it fails to ignite or its energy is no longer sufficient.
Replacing the deuterium lamp
WARNING! Electric shock!
Before replacing the deuterium lamp switch off the mains switch and disconnect the mains
cable from the SPECORD PLUS connection.
CAUTION! Risk of burns!
Allow the deuterium lamp to cool down. There is a risk of burning!
CAUTION! Emission of UV radiation!
Do not look directly or indirectly through a mirror into the illuminated lamp radiation! The
emitted UV radiation can damage the retina!
ATTENTION! Contamination of the beam outlet window!
Do not touch the glass body of the new deuterium lamp. Protect particularly the quartz glass
beam outlet window! If the glass body has been touched by fingers wipe it with a clean lint-
free cloth and pure alcohol. Contamination deteriorates the lamp properties.
1. Switch off the SPECORD PLUS.
2. Disconnect the mains cable from the device connection and turn the SPECORD PLUS
around until the rear of the device points forward.
3. Wait 30 minutes for the lamps to cool down. Otherwise there is a risk of burning from
the hot lamps or their covers.
4. Undo the knurled head screw of the service flap on the rear of the SPECORD PLUS
and remove the service flap.
