The Aquasure Quantum UV is a whole-house multi-stage water filtration system equipped with an ultraviolet (UV) water purifier, designed to provide clean and safe water throughout your home. This system is engineered to reduce sediment, inhibit bacteria growth, remove chlorine taste and odor, and prevent limescale buildup and corrosion, ensuring comprehensive water treatment.
The Aquasure Quantum UV system operates through a multi-stage filtration process combined with UV purification. Water first enters the system through a pleated sediment filter (Stage 1), which is responsible for superior sediment reduction and excellent dirt-holding capacity. This filter is designed to be washable and reusable, offering a sustainable solution for initial particulate removal. Following the sediment filter, water passes through a multi-purpose filter with anti-rust media (Stage 2). This filter features a polypropylene outer shell infused with copper zinc to inhibit bacteria growth, activated carbon to remove chlorine taste, odor, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and a Siliphos-infused core to prevent limescale buildup and corrosion.
After the initial filtration stages, the water enters the UV chamber, where it is exposed to a UV 254NM wavelength lamp. This UV lamp provides a powerful disinfection stage, effectively purifying the water by inactivating bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms without the use of chemicals. The system includes a UV ballast that powers the lamp and an ultraviolet monitoring system that continuously senses UV light operation. This monitoring system features a single LED indicator light that operates in two distinct colors: green and red. A green light indicates that the UV lamp is satisfactory and the unit is in good working order, providing continuous water protection. A red light, accompanied by an audible alarm, signals that the unit requires attention, such as a lamp replacement or cleaning of the quartz sleeve and/or sensor probe.
The system is designed for indoor use only and should not be exposed to weather or freezing temperatures. It is recommended for potable water applications and requires specific feed water supply conditions to ensure optimal performance and to maintain warranty validity. These conditions include limits on iron, hardness, turbidity, manganese, tannins, and UV transmittance. If water hardness exceeds 7 GPG, a water softener placed before the Quantum UV system is recommended.
The Aquasure Quantum UV system is designed for ease of use and monitoring. It includes two pressure gauges that are useful for monitoring water pressure levels and identifying a drop in pressure across the filters. Users are advised to record pressure levels when the filters and system are newly installed to establish a baseline for ideal water pressure. A decline of 15 PSI from this baseline indicates that the filter cartridges should be inspected.
Installation of the system involves several steps, including shutting off the main water supply, mounting the system securely, and installing the filters and UV components. The system bracket features mounting holes that are 16 inches apart, suitable for common home wall studs. It is equipped with 3/4-inch and 1-inch NPT connections, and the use of plumber's tape is recommended for these connections.
When installing the UV lamp and quartz sleeve, it is crucial to handle them with care, preferably using plastic gloves, to avoid fingerprints, which can reduce the lamp's performance. The UV lamp should be slowly and carefully inserted into the top end cap and into the quartz sleeve to prevent damage. The ballast plug sleeve should be fully seated over the end cap to prevent the lamp from disconnecting. The system housing can then be closed and locked with the provided key.
After installation, flushing the plumbing lines is a critical step to ensure that all work has been done correctly, and to remove any debris or trapped air. This involves turning on the nearest faucet with cold water and slowly turning on the main water supply, allowing water to run until clear. System startup involves plugging the AC adapter into a wall outlet, at which point the LED indicator on the ballast should glow green, signaling that the lamp is on and the system is operational.
Regular maintenance is essential for the Aquasure Quantum UV system to ensure optimum performance and continuous protection. This includes periodic replacement of filters and the UV lamp, as well as cleaning of the quartz sleeve.
The pleated sediment filter (Stage 1) and the multi-purpose filter (Stage 2) are recommended to be replaced every 6 months, depending on water quality. The process for replacing these filters involves shutting off the main water supply, releasing excess water and pressure from the pipes, unscrewing the filter housings, discarding old filters, and cleaning the housings with warm water (without chemicals). New filters are then placed inside the housings, ensuring they are centered on the standpipe. The o-ring at the top of the housing should be checked for cracks or damage and replaced if necessary. The housings are then hand-tightened and secured with the supplied filter housing wrench, taking care not to overtighten. After installing new filters, the main water supply is turned on, checked for leaks, and water is run from the nearest faucet for 10 minutes to release trapped air bubbles or carbon fines.
The UV lamp has an effective life of approximately 9000 hours and should be replaced annually to ensure continuous protection. The quartz sleeve may also require periodic cleaning, especially if the water contains hardness minerals, iron, or manganese. To clean or replace the quartz sleeve, the power supply to the UV lamp must be disconnected, and the water supply shut off. The UV lamp is carefully removed, and the UV chamber is drained. The end caps are unscrewed, and the quartz sleeve is removed, taking care to remove o-rings. The quartz sleeve can be cleaned with CLR, vinegar, or a mild acid, then rinsed, avoiding water introduction to the inside. Reassembly follows the reverse steps. When replacing the UV lamp, the old lamp is disconnected from the ballast, and the new lamp is connected and carefully reinserted into the chamber.
The system also features a warning system for the UV lamp. If the lamp fails to start, a red light will glow, and an audible alarm will sound, indicating that the UV lamp is no longer operating and needs correction. The ultraviolet monitoring system provides continuous feedback on UV light operation, with a red light and audible alarm signaling the need for lamp replacement or cleaning of the quartz sleeve and/or sensor probe. It is crucial not to disregard these warning lights, as they are designed to ensure high efficiency in protection against microbiological contamination. For optimal performance, it is recommended to have the water tested for bacteria by a recognized testing agency on a regular basis.
