Note: Depending on the degree of soiling, this caustic wash can be
varied in temperature, concentration and time period and this is
only determined from experience.
8. Drain the caustic solution and replace with potable rinse water. Allow the
rinse water to re-circulate for a few minutes and observe to detect any
discolouring or any particulates which demonstrate the effectiveness of the
caustic wash. It may be necessary to repeat the caustic wash if soil does appear
at this stage. Finally, use an indicator paper to determine that the caustic has
been rinsed out.
Turn off the water circulator.
9. When the rinse water is clean, a quantity of hypochlorite solution can be
added to this water to make up approximately a 1% solution. Circulate for 10
minutes, drain and follow with clean rinse water.
The equipment is now in a ready state for start up.
Note: Never leave hypochlorite solution in the equipment, as even
low concentrations are corrosive to stainless steel.
