1 Introduction
1.1 Scope and definitions
This manual provides installation, operation and maintenance instructions for the Atlas Copco
Standard/Safe Area Liquid Ring Vacuum Pumps (abbreviated to ‘liquid ring pump(s)’ or ‘pump(s)’ in the
remainder of this manual).
You must use your pump as specified in this manual.
Read this manual before you install and operate your pump. Important safety information is highlighted
as WARNING and CAUTION instructions; you must obey these instructions. The use of WARNINGS
and CAUTIONS is defined below.
WARNING
Warnings are given where failure to observe the instruction could
result in
injury or death to people.
CAUTION
Cautions are given where failure to observe the instruction could result in damage to the
equipment, associated equipment and process.
The units used throughout this manual conform to the SI international system of units of measurement.
The pump identification and rating plate (refer to the System Manual) provides specific details about the
pump, including: pump type; part number and serial number; and so on.
The following IEC warning labels appear on the pump:
Warning - refer to accompanying documentation.
Protective earth (ground)
Ear defenders must be worn. (Only fitted to pumps which generate noise
levels (at 1 metre) > 85 dB(A): see Section 2.4)
1.2 The liquid ring pump
The Standard AWC Liquid Ring pumps are suitable for pumping a wide range of non-flammable gases and
vapours, subject to the restrictions specified in Section 1.2.1.
Standard pumps have mechanical seals. Each seal has its own seals flush supply, provided internally from
the sealing liquid ring.
