The ABS warning light and the brake warn-
ing light come on together. The ABS will not
work and you will notice a change in braking
response and performance.
Malfunction in the brake system
If the brake warn ing lig ht <=:>page 18 and
the ABS warning ill umina t e
together there
may be a malf unction in the ABS, and there
may also be a malf unct ion in the brake system
itself

I n t he event of a malfunction in the brake
system
the warn ing/indicato r light _
(USA models),11 (Canada models) in the in-
strument cluster flashes. By pressing the
!SET!
button, you can bri ng up a dr iver message
which expla ins the malfu ncti on in more de-
tail. Please note

Malfunction in the electronic differential
lock (EDL)
The EDL works toget her with the ABS. The
ABS warning ligh t will come on if the re is a
malfunc ti on in the EDL system
c:> page 200 .
See your aut horized Audi dealer as soon as
possible.
.&_ WARNING
- If them (USA mode ls)/11] (Canada
mode ls) warn ing light does not go out ,
or if it comes on while driving, the ABS
system is not working prope rly. The vehi-
cle can then be stopped only with the
standard brakes (without ABS). You will
not have the protection ABS provides .
Contact your autho rized Audi dealer as
soon as possible.
- USA models: If the - warning ligh t
and
the m warning light come on to-
get her, t he rear w heels could lock up
firs t under hard braking. Rear wheel lock-
up can cause loss of vehicle cont rol and
an accident. Have your vehicle repaired
-
immed iate ly by your autho rized Audi
dealer or a qualified workshop. Drive
slowly and avoid sudden, hard brake ap-
plications.
- Canada models: If the brake warning
light . and the ABS war ning light
li]
come on togethe r, th e rear wheels could
lock up firs t under hard braking. Rear
wheel lock-up can cause loss of vehicle
control and an accident . Have your vehi-
cle repaired imme diately by your aut hor-
ized Audi dealer or a qualifie d wor kshop.
Drive slowly and avoid sudden, hard
brake applications .
:ru I<®> Electromechanical parking brake
The warning/indicator light monitors t he
elec tromechanical parking brake.
Wi th t he parking brake applied and th e igni-
tio n tu rned on, th e . (USA
models),11 (Can-
ada models) warn ing/indi cator lig ht ill umi -
nates. After the ignition has been t urned off,
the warning/ indicator light continues to ill u-
minate for about 30 seconds. If the parking
brake is applied with the ign ition t urned off,
the war ning/ indicato r light illum inates for
about 30 seconds.
The warning/indicator light wi ll go out when
the parking brake is released .
If the warning/indicator light flas hes continu-
ously
after applying the parking brake, brak-
ing f orce is not suff icient to prevent the vehi-
cle from rolling unintentionally . Please note
the followi ng:
- If the slope of the ground is too steep to
park the vehicle, the addit ional drive mes-
sage appears
Caution : Vehicle parked too
steep .
- In the event of a parking brake malfunction,
the yellow
IIJ symbol appears in the instr u-
ment cluste r display and the driver message
Parking brake malfunction! is display ed.
Have t he malf unct ion repaired as soon as
possible by an autho rized Audi dealer or any
ot her qual ifi ed wor kshop.
