Using tether straps on rearward-facing
child restraints
Currently, few rear-facing child restraint systems
come with a tether. Please read and heed the
child restraint system manufact urer's instruc-
tions carefully to determine how to properly in-
stall the tether .
A WARNING
A child in a rearward -facing child safety seat
installed on the front passenger seat will be
ser iously injured and can be killed if the front
airbag inflates - even with an Advanced Airbag
System.
- The inflating airbag will hit the child safety
seat or infant car rier wit h gre at force and
will smash t he child safe ty seat and child
against the backrest, cen t er armrest, or
door.
- A tight t ether or other strap on a rearwar d-
facing child res t ra int attached to the front
passenge r seat can put too much pressure
on the we ight-mat in the seat and register a
heavier weight in the Advanced Airbag Sys-
tem . The heav ier weight registered can
make the system wo rk as though an adult
were on the sea t and deploy t he Advanced
Airbag when it must be supp ressed caus ing
serious or even fat al injur y to the ch ild.
- If you must install a rearward fac ing child
safe ty seat on the front passenger seat be-
ca use of exce ptiona l circumstan ces and t he
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF ligh t does not
come on an d st ay on, immed iate ly ins tall
the rear-fac ing ch ild safety seat in a rear
seat ing pos ition and have the airbag system
inspected by your Audi dealer.
