- Never fill the fuel container with fuel
while it is in or on the vehicle. Stat ic elec-
tricity is d ischarged when filling wh ich can
cause the f uel vapors to ignite and in-
creases the risk of an explos ion .
- Always place a fuel container on the
ground before filling .
- Always hold the fuel nozzle comp letely in
the fuel container when filling.
- If the fue l conta iner is made of metal, the
fue l nozzle must always be in contact wit h
the conta iner when filling it with fue l. This
prevents static electr icity from discharg-
ing.
- Never sp ill fuel in the veh icle or the lug -
gage compartment . Evaporated fue l is ex-
plosive and increases t he risk of se rious in-
jury or dea th .
- Follow legal requireme nts when using,
st oring and t ran spo rt ing fuel cont aine rs.
- Make sure the fue l conta iner confo rms t o
indu st ry st anda rds (ANSI/ ASTM F852-86).

- Remove spilled fuel from vehicle paint im-
mediately, because it can damage paint.
- Never drive until the fuel tank is completely
empty . The irregular supp ly of fuel that re-
su lts from t hat ca n cause engine m isfires .
Uncombusted f ue l will enter t he exha ust
system and increase t he risk of damage t o
the cat alyt ic converter.
@ For the sake of the environment
Do not overfill the fuel tank, othe rwise fue l
can leak out when t he vehicle is wa rm ing up.

The f uel fi ller door on your vehicle does not
lock if you lock the vehicle from the inside .

Fuel filler door emergency release
If the central locking system is faulty, the fuel
filler door can be unlocked manually .

The emergency release mechan ism is located be-
hind the right side trim panel in the luggage
compartment.
.,. Remove the cover in t he side panel.
.,. Loosen the loop from the retainer -arrow- and
then pull on the loop carefu lly ¢ @ . The fuel
filler door releases.

Catalytic converter
It is very important that your emission control
system (catalytic converter) is functioning prop-
erly to ensure that your vehicle is running in an
environmentally sound manner .

.,. Never run the tank down all the way to empty .
.,. Never put too much motor oil in your engine

.,. Never try to push- or tow-start your vehicle .
