Accelerator pedal module (Audi A6)
No separate switch is used to provide kick-
down information. In the case of automatic-
gearbox vehicles, the accelerator pedal stop
is replaced by a pressure element. The
pressure element generates a “mechanical
pressure point“ which gives the driver the
“kickdown feeling“.
If the driver activates the kickdown, the full-
throttle voltage of the accelerator pedal
position senders is exceeded. If a voltage
defined in the engine control unit is reached,
this is interpreted as a kickdown and the
information is sent to the automatic gearbox
via the CAN bus. The kickdown switching
point can only be tested using diagnostic
testers.
