6.2.2 Routine Checks (Self-test)
To ensure that measurement results are not falsified, the device must be subjected to
certain self-tests on a regular basis. If these tests are not performed in time, the device
will prompt the user to do so.
The following tests must be carried out:
Measurement with HEPA filtered,
particulate-free air (clean air test
procedure) to check if there is any
contamination in the gas handling
system.
Checks if the gas handling system is
airtight.
Checks the correct functionality of the
Corona discharge.
Checks the correct functionality of the
FCEM.
The device requests the self-test automatically when needed.
The Corona module is a main part of the internal core sensor of the device. In the Corona, the aerosol
particles get electrically charged.
The Faraday cup electrometer (FCEM) is another main part of the internal core sensor. In the FCEM, the
electrical charge of the aerosol particles is measured.
