Setting Up an Ad-hoc Network in Windows XP
If one of the computers in the ad-hoc network is connected
with the Internet (for instance via LAN cable), you can enter
the IP address of that computer on the other computers as
the standard gateway to provide access to the Internet for all
computers.
If a DNS server is running on one of the computers in the ad-
hoc network, you can enter the IP address of this computer as
the “Preferred DNS server”. If no DNS server is available, en-
ter any IP address. In this case you can reach other computers
only by entering their IP addresses.
Registering at an Ad-hoc Network
The computer on which you set up the ad-hoc network still
has to log in to the ad-hoc network. Only then is the ad-hoc
network visible for other computers.
1. Click the WLAN icon in the notification area of the
Windows task bar.
2. Select the ad-hoc network and click “Connect”.
Now you can use the WLAN software on the other computers
to search for and log in to the ad-hoc network.
