Current and Voltage Conventions
The terminology used in this discussion applies to all amplifiers manufactured by Axon
Instruments.
Positive Current
The flow of positive ions out of the headstage into the microelectrode and out of
the microelectrode tip into the preparation is termed positive current.
Inward Current
Current that flows across the membrane, from the outside surface to the inside
surface, is termed inward current.
Outward Current
Current that flows across the membrane, from the inside surface to the outside
surface, is termed outward current.
