7.14. Steering system
YourpoweryachtVirtess420issteeredviathetwopropulsionunits(whateveroption),atslowspeedsalsowiththe
aid of the bow thruster. Even with only one engine running you will be able to control the yachts motions.
Caution
» Refer to the system manufacturer‘s documentation for information pertaining to the
steeringsystem–readtheVOLVOmanualcarefully.
» Allcomponentsofthesteeringsystemmustundergoperiodicinspection&mainte-
nance to ensure safe operating conditions. Refer to the maintenance section of the
manufacturer’s manual for further details regarding intervals etc.
» Failureofthesteeringsystemwillcauselossofcontrolofyourboat.Anychangein
steering such as looseness, tightness, binding, etc., must be checked immediately by a
qualiedperson.

Information
The boat‘s steering system has the following components:
» Theboatisbeingsteeredviathetwosteeringwheelsonthetwohelmstands,joystick
steering may be installed additionally as an option.
» The steering device itself is with all engine and drive options the propulsion units them-
selves,Thereisnorudderandnoemergencysteeringtted.
» Inthecaseofthesteeringbyjoystickthesignalistransmittedelectronically,withthe
steering wheels the steering force is transmitted hydraulically via hydraulic hoses.
The yacht Virtess 420Flyhastwosteeringpositions:
» Steeringposition–starboardinsaloon,sittinginaraisedpositionbehindthewind-
screen
» Flybridgeportsideforward(onlywiththeFlybridgeyacht)theCoupéYachtisnot
equipped with this second steering position
