7.7 VALVE CLEARANCE
NOTE
Recommend service to be performed by authorized service dealer.
Only check or adjust the valves when the engine is cold.
The gasket should be replaced if torn or damaged.
Valve Clearence: Intake Valve 0.0031 - 0.0047 in. (0.08 - 0.12 mm)
Exhaust Valve 0.0051 - 0.0067 in (0.13 - 0.17 mm)
Torque: 106 inch-pound (12 N·m).
1. Remove the spark plug cap. Carefully remove the breather tube and the
valve cover.
2. Identify the intake valve on the right and the exhaust valve on the left.
Slowly pull the recoil handle to move the valves until the intake rocker arms
is fully down.
3. Adjust the exhaust rocker arm by inserting a feeler gauge between the
rocker arm and the valve stem to measure valve clearance.
4. If an adjustment is necessary, hold the rocker arm pivot and loosen the
pivot adjusting nut.
5. Turn the rocker arm pivot to obtain the specied clearance. Hold the rocker
arm pivot and re-tighten the pivot adjusting nut to the specied torque.
6. Perform step 2 to 5 for the other valve.
7. Reinstall the breather tube, the valve cover and the spark plug cap.
