How to troubleshoot a Berkeley 10SN motor that will not run?
    • S
      spadillaAug 5, 2025
If your Berkeley Water Pump's motor won't run, first ensure the disconnect switch is on. If it still doesn't work, check the fuse and replace it if it's blown, or reset the circuit breaker if it's tripped. If those aren't the issue, the starting switch might be defective and need replacement, but be sure to disconnect power first. Also, inspect the wires at the motor to ensure they are tightly connected and wired correctly, again, after disconnecting power. Lastly, if the pressure switch contacts are dirty, disconnect the power and clean them with an emery board or nail file.

What to do if my Berkeley 10SN Water Pump delivers water but does not shut off?
    • M
      Michael Garcia DVMAug 10, 2025
If your Berkeley Water Pump delivers water but doesn't shut off or cycles too frequently, first, disconnect power and adjust or replace the pressure switch. Check if any faucets have been left open and close them. Inspect and clean the venturi, nozzle, or impeller if they are clogged. If you have a standard pressure tank that is waterlogged, drain the tank to the air volume control port. Check all pipe connections for air leaks and replace the foot valve if it's leaking. Finally, if you have a pre-charged tank, disconnect power, relieve pressure, and check the air pressure; adjust it to 2 PSI less than the cut-in setting of the switch, and check for leaks at the air valve.

Why does my Berkeley 10SN motor run hot and overload kicks off?
    • W
      William EdwardsAug 15, 2025
If your Berkeley Water Pump motor runs hot and the overload kicks off, the motor might be wired incorrectly, so refer to the wiring instructions. Also, the voltage may be too low, in which case you should check with your power company. If the pump cycles too frequently, install heavier wiring, referencing the Electrical/Wiring Chart for proper wire size.

Why is my Berkeley 10SN Water Pump not delivering water to full capacity?
    • H
      hinesthomasAug 26, 2025
If your Berkeley Water Pump does not deliver water to full capacity, it could be due to several reasons. If the water level in your well is lower than estimated, a deep well jet may be needed if the depth to water exceeds 25 feet. If you're using steel piping, corrosion or liming could be causing excess friction; consider replacing it with plastic pipe or new steel pipe. Also, ensure that the piping isn't too small; using larger piping can help. Lastly, a packed well point can restrict water flow; backflush the well point or sink a new one.

Why does my Berkeley Water Pump have air spurts from the faucets?
    • A
      amy90Aug 30, 2025
If your Berkeley Water Pump is spurting air from the faucets, it might be picking up prime; once it has primed, it should pump solid water without air. Check the suction side of the pump for leaks using soapy water. If the well is gaseous, consult the factory about installing a sleeve in the well. Intermittent over-pumping can also cause this; lower the foot valve if possible, or restrict the pump discharge.

What to do if my Berkeley 10SN Water Pump motor runs but no water is delivered?
    • B
      Bruce HernandezNov 20, 2025
If your Berkeley Water Pump motor runs but no water is delivered, and it's a new installation, re-prime the pump according to the instructions. Also, check all connections on the suction line, AVC, and ejector with soapy water or shaving cream. Replace the foot valve or check valve if necessary. If the pump has lost prime in an existing installation, check all connections on the suction line and shaft seal. You can also lower the suction line into the water and re-prime. Additionally, clean the foot valve or strainer if they are plugged, as well as the ejector or impeller. Replace the check valve or foot valve if they are stuck shut. Thaw any frozen pipes. Raise the foot valve and/or strainer above the bottom of the water source if they are buried in sand or mud. If the water level is too ...
