Overview

The Braun Silk-expert Pro 3 Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) device is designed for the permanent removal of unwanted, visible hair in the comfort of your home. It utilizes professional light technology to achieve long-term hair growth reduction after a certain period of treatment. The device is most effective on light to medium skin tones and dark hair colors.

Function Description:

The Silk-expert Pro 3 operates by targeting melanin in the hair follicle beneath the skin surface, which helps to break the cycle of hair re-growth. With continued, periodic use, the light energy works to prevent unwanted hair from reaching the skin surface. A key feature is the intelligent SensoAdapt™ skin tone sensors, which continuously read your skin tone before each flash. This allows the device to automatically adapt the light intensity for optimal efficacy and safety. This ensures appropriate light intensity for various skin tones, while also preventing treatment if your skin tone is too dark, which could otherwise cause discomfort or adverse effects.

Usage Features:

Before using the device, it is essential to prepare the treatment area by removing any visible hair and ensuring the skin is clean and dry. This helps to keep the treatment window clean and intact. The device is activated by connecting the mains cord to an electrical outlet and pressing the sensitive mode button. Once activated, the LED power bars will light up, and a fan will start running, indicating that the device is in READY mode.

The device offers two primary treatment methods:

  • Gliding Mode: This mode is suitable for fast and efficient treatment of large areas, such as legs. To use, firmly place the treatment window on the skin, ensuring both skin tone sensors have full contact. Press and hold the treatment button, and the device will begin to flash. Then, move the device slowly and continuously from the bottom to the top of the treatment area, maintaining full skin contact for continuous flashing. After completing a gliding stroke, lift the device and repeat the process on the next adjacent area in a parallel stroke.
  • Stamping Mode: This mode is ideal for treating small, hard-to-reach, or curvy areas, such as the face (for females), bikini line, underarms, knees, chin, and ankles. In this mode, place the treatment window firmly on the skin, ensuring both skin tone sensors have full contact. Press and instantly release the treatment button to emit a single flash. Lift the device, place it on the next adjacent spot, wait for the power bars to show white LEDs, and then press and release the treatment button again. Continue this spot-by-spot treatment until the entire desired area is covered.

The device also includes a Sensitive Mode, which can be activated by pressing the sensitive mode button. This reduces the light intensity, and an indicator light confirms its activation. Pressing the button again deactivates this mode. The power bars flash to confirm any change in light intensity. If the sensitive mode button is held for more than 3 seconds, the device deactivates. It also automatically deactivates after 10 minutes of non-use.

For facial treatment (females only), a patch test is recommended before the first treatment. When treating the face, it is important to close your eyes or look away from the device to avoid the bright light. Avoid treating the same area twice to prevent adverse reactions. Special care should be taken when treating the upper lip area to avoid contact with the lips and nostrils. Pressing the lips together can help prevent light activation on the upper lip itself. Hair growth under the chin may be denser and coarser, potentially leading to temporary skin reddening after treatment, which typically disappears within 24 hours.

The device comes with different treatment heads:

  • Standard Head: Can be used on all areas, efficient for large areas like legs.
  • Precision Head (not with all models): Specifically designed for small, curvy, hard-to-reach areas. When attached, the flashing sequence is slower.

A start-up phase of one treatment per week for 4-12 weeks is recommended to achieve continuously smooth skin, as only hairs in their growing phase are susceptible to light treatment. Once hair growth is no longer visible, users can switch to maintenance treatments, typically every 1-2 months, as needed.

Maintenance Features:

After each treatment, it is important to unplug the power supply from the electrical outlet. The skin tone sensors and the treatment window should be inspected for damage and wiped down with a dry, lint-free cloth. Any marks or black spots should be cleaned off immediately. It is crucial not to touch or clean the glass filter immediately after use, allowing it to cool down. The device should not be rinsed or immersed in water or any other liquid.

To ensure maximum performance, the treatment heads, with their built-in reflectors, should be kept free from dirt, hair, or other debris. They should be cleaned carefully with a dry cloth, not in water. The device should be stored in a cool, dry place, ensuring the treatment window and skin sensors are protected from damage.

After treatment, it is recommended to use sunscreen with SPF >15 on treated areas exposed to the sun and to avoid exposure to artificial light sources like tanning booths. For 24 hours post-treatment, avoid activities or skin products that may irritate the skin, such as hot tubs, saunas, tight-fitting clothing, bleaching creams, perfumed products, or exfoliation products. If redness or a burning sensation occurs and lasts for several minutes, applying a cool cloth/pad can soothe the area. Any persistent skin color changes (lightening or darkening) should prompt discontinuation of use and consultation with a physician.
