Troubleshooting
Metropolitan Murphy Beds like yours have a recessed area on the doors. This area
is marked as a screw free zone on Chapter 4, Step 1. Contact BredaBeds to discuss
replacement options.
The screws are poking through the doors on the front.
We provide a 4” x 3/4” notch that will accommodate most baseboard situations.
If the notch must be made larger, you can notch the wood with a saw. If the
baseboard interferes with the Bottom Nailer, it will need to be moved higher up.
The Bottom Nailer connects to the sides with 4 cam ttings (2 on each side). These
holes will need to be drilled higher up on the sides with a 5mm or 3/16” drill bit.
The distance between the holes must remain exactly the same. Alternatively, you
can remove or notch the baseboard.
The Bed Cabinet hits my baseboard.
The mattress and bedding should be in place to determine the proper spring
tension. See Chapter 7, Step 2 for spring adjustment.
If the bed won’t close all the way, check to make sure your mattress is no more
than 11” thick. You may have to move your pillows closer to the Leg End of the bed
so that when closed, the pillows will be higher than the headboard which sits at an
angle to minimize the gap between the wall and mattress.
The bed doesn’t stay closed/open.
The Bed Cabinet bottom needs to be moved left or right. See Chapter 7, Step 1.
The Bed Face Panel is not even side-to-side or the legs hit left/right side.
Light gauge steel studs: Stack the screws provided so each stud has 2 screws
separated by at least an inch of vertical spacing. The Bottom Nailer is not as
critical, so when you attach it on Chapter 7, it’s sucient to use just 1 screw on the
outside studs.
Heavy gauge steel studs: Follow the directions above for light gauge steel studs,
but use #8 x 2 1/2” (or greater) self-taping sheet metal screws.
Masonry: Contact us to discuss attachment.
I don’t have wood studs in my wall to attach the Bed Cabinet to.
If you have 3 studs, stack the screws in the Top Nailer so each stud has 2 screws
separated by at least an inch of vertical spacing. The Bottom Nailer is not as
critical, so when you attach it on Chapter 7, it’s sucient to use just 1 screw on the
outside studs. If you have less than 3 studs, contact us to discuss attachment.
I have 3 or less stud locations to attach the Bed Cabinet to.
