  If your Briggs & Stratton Water Pump engine won't start, lacks power, runs rough, or falters, consider these potential causes: Ensure the rocker switch is set to 'On' and the fuel shutoff is in the 'On' position. Check the air cleaner and clean or replace it if dirty. Make sure there's fuel in the tank; if empty, wait two minutes before refueling. Drain the fuel tank and carburetor and refill with fresh fuel if the current fuel is stale or contaminated. Verify the spark plug wire is connected, and replace the spark plug if it’s bad. If the engine is flooded, wait 5 minutes and try re-cranking.

Verify that the discharge hose isn't restricted, damaged, or too long, replacing it if needed. Reduce the head by relocating the pump or hoses. Finally, ensure the engine speed lever is in the 'Fast' position.
