Why does my Brother HL-5440D say no toner?

If your Brother printer shows a 'No Toner' message, it indicates that the toner cartridge or the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly is not installed properly. Remove the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly, then remove the toner cartridge from the drum unit, and re-install the toner cartridge back into the drum unit again. Re-install the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly back in the machine. If the problem continues, replace the toner cartridge.

If your Brother printer displays 'Replace Drum', it is time to replace the drum unit. Also, if a new drum was installed, the drum unit counter may need to be reset. Reset the drum unit counter.
