Overview

The Camp Chef DLX 24 WiFi Pellet Grill is an outdoor cooking appliance designed for smoking, grilling, and roasting food using hardwood pellets. It features a WiFi-enabled controller that allows users to monitor and control the grill remotely via the Camp Chef Connect app.

Function Description:

The primary function of the DLX 24 is to cook food using wood pellets as fuel. The grill's controller manages the pellet feed rate and fan speed to maintain a set temperature, providing consistent heat and smoke for various cooking styles. It includes two probe ports for monitoring internal food temperatures, which can be tracked through the controller display or the mobile app. The grill is equipped with an auger system that feeds pellets from the hopper to the burn pot, where they are ignited by a hot rod. A fan circulates air to maintain combustion and distribute heat and smoke evenly within the cooking chamber.

Usage Features:

  • Temperature Control: Users can set the desired cooking temperature ranging from 160°F to HIGH using the controller dial. The controller also offers two built-in presets: "Low Smoke" (160°F with smoke level 2) and "High Smoke" (220°F with smoke level 3).
  • Smoke Level Adjustment: The smoke level can be adjusted from 1 to 10. A lower smoke setting (e.g., 1) produces less smoke and maintains a more even temperature, while a higher setting (e.g., 10) increases smoke production and temperature fluctuations, enhancing the smoky flavor.
  • WiFi Connectivity: The integrated WiFi allows users to connect the grill to their home 2.4GHz WiFi network. Through the Camp Chef Connect app, users can set temperatures, adjust smoke levels, monitor probe temperatures, and receive notifications.
  • Bluetooth Connectivity: In addition to WiFi, the controller supports Bluetooth for local connectivity with the app, providing an alternative way to manage the grill.
  • Meat Probes: The grill comes with two probe ports for monitoring the internal temperature of food. These probes can be named and assigned target temperatures within the app, which will send notifications when the target is approached.
  • Fan Mode: A dedicated "Fan Mode" allows the fan to operate without igniting the burner. This feature is useful for cold smoking, especially when using a pellet tube, by circulating ambient air through the grill.
  • Feed Function: The "Feed" setting is used to prime the auger tube with pellets, either during the initial setup or when changing pellet varieties. This ensures that pellets are ready for ignition.
  • Shutdown Cycle: After cooking, the "Shutdown" mode initiates a 20-minute cycle where the fan runs to burn off any remaining pellets in the burn cup and cool down the grill. This is a crucial step to prevent uncontrolled fires and ensure safe operation.
  • Bypass Mode: In cases of power failure or accidental shutdown while the grill is still hot, the "Bypass" mode allows users to restart the grill without going through the full startup ignition sequence, provided the grill has been off for less than 3-4 minutes.
  • Units Conversion: The controller allows users to switch between Fahrenheit and Celsius temperature readings.
  • Information Display: The "About" menu on the controller provides information such as firmware version, grill ID, and connection status.
  • Reset Function: The "Reset" option allows users to clear WiFi and Bluetooth history from the controller, which can be useful for troubleshooting connectivity issues.

Maintenance Features:

  • Regular Cleaning: The pellet grill requires thorough cleaning after every 50 hours of use or whenever a buildup of grease or creosote is noticed. This involves removing all internal parts, scraping away grease and creosote from all internal surfaces (including the grease drain), and removing debris.
  • Drip Tray Cleaning: The drip tray must be cleaned regularly to prevent excessive grease buildup, which can lead to grease fires.
  • Ash Clean-out System: The DLX 24 features an ash clean-out knob on the side of the grill. Pulling this knob allows users to empty the burn cup, which should be done before each cook to ensure efficient burning and prevent temperature swings. The ash cup should be replaced and secured after emptying.
  • Creosote Removal: When wood pellets burn slowly, creosote can accumulate on the flue lining and exhaust hood. Regular inspection and removal of creosote are necessary to reduce the risk of fire.
  • Pellet Storage: It is recommended not to store pellets in the hopper for extended periods, as they can absorb moisture and clog the auger. Pellets should be kept dry.
  • Burn Cup Emptying: Excess pellets from the feed cycle must be emptied from the burn cup before starting the grill and beginning the initial burn-in to prevent over-firing.
  • Grill Cover: Always allow the appliance to cool before covering it. The grill should be covered when not in use to protect it from the elements.
  • Unplugging: Always unplug the pellet grill before installing a patio cover or performing maintenance to prevent electric shock.
  • Ash Disposal: Ashes should be placed in a metal container with a tight-fitting lid and stored on a non-combustible surface, away from flammable materials, until thoroughly cooled before final disposal.
