Overview

This document describes the IRIScan™ Anywhere Duplex, a revolutionary wireless mobile battery scanner designed for convenient document and card scanning.

Function Description

The IRIScan™ Anywhere Duplex functions as a portable scanner that can connect to computers and mobile devices via USB cable or Wi-Fi. It operates as an Access Point (AC) for Wi-Fi connections, allowing direct connection without an additional access point. The scanner supports various scanning modes, including simplex and duplex, and can output files in PDF, JPEG, or TIF formats. It is designed for quick and easy scanning of documents and plastic cards, with features like auto-cropping and deskewing (though these are deactivated at 600 dpi to conserve memory). The device integrates with I.R.I.S. software like Capture Tool and Button Manager (Windows®), and offers mobile applications for Android® and iOS® for on-the-go scanning.

Maintenance Features

Calibrate the Scanner: Calibration is recommended if images are blurred, colors appear abnormal, after more than 8,000 scans, or after prolonged disuse. This restores color accuracy and sharpness.

  1. Start the scanner and the Capture Tool software.
  2. Select the scanner model and driver type.
  3. Click "OK" in Capture Tool, then "Setup" to open the TWAIN user interface.
  4. Go to the "Settings" tab and click "Calibration."
  5. Insert the supplied calibration sheet face up, white area first, into the feeder.
  6. Click "OK" to start calibration and wait for it to complete.
  • Important: Use only the supplied calibration sheet. Do not stop the calibration sequence. Keep the calibration sheet clean and undamaged.

Clean the Scanner: Cleaning is recommended approximately every 200 scans or if vertical lines/stripes appear on scanned images, to maintain image quality and prevent dust build-up.

  1. Open the scanner cover by holding the feeder with one thumb and lifting the cover with the other.
  2. Gently wipe the scanner glass, feed rollers, and CIS cover with the cleaning cloth.
  • Caution: Do not use solvents or corrosive liquids (alcohol, kerosene, etc.) as they can permanently damage the plastic material.

Troubleshooting:

  • Scanner not starting/recognized: Check USB cable connection, restart computer.
  • Scanner warm: Normal after prolonged use; stop immediately if strange smells or excessive heat.
  • Strange lines on scanned document: Check original for scratches/cleanliness, clean rollers and glass.
  • Scanned image too dark: Calibrate scanner, adjust monitor's sRGB color profile.
  • Scan button flashes rapidly/no scan: Check for paper jam (remove carefully), ensure cover is closed, ensure next original is inserted only after previous scan, check if original exceeds max size.
  • Mobile device crashes after scanning: Expand RAM on mobile device, or use a third-party app for RAM management.
  • Wi-Fi network (SSID) not visible: Ensure Wi-Fi switch is ON and LED is lit; wait if in countdown mode.
  • Battery drains faster with Wi-Fi ON: Normal; advisable to turn off Wi-Fi mode after downloading images.
  • Cannot connect to internet after disconnecting from scanner Wi-Fi: Reconnect computer/mobile device to usual local Wi-Fi network.
  • Correcting wrong cropping: Apply cleaning or calibration procedures.
  • Clear Wi-Fi connection (if password prompt not shown): Stop scanner, go to Wi-Fi settings > manage known networks on computer, select old scanner connections and "Forget," restart scanner, then reconnect to Wi-Fi. This also applies to mobile devices for conflicts between different scanners.
