4-OPERATINGINSTRUCTIONS
Coldstart(ifequipped)
Coldtemperatureoperation
Coldweatherconditionscausespecialproblems.Duringthereconditions,yourmachinewillrequirespecialattention
topreventseriousdamage.Coldweathermaintenancewillextendtheservicelifeofyourmachine.
Tostartandoperateyourmachineduringcoldambienttemperature,observethefollowingsuggestion/instructions.
Batteryandelectricalcomponents:
•
Ensurethebatteriesareatfullcharge.
•
Ifyouaddwatertothebatteries,chargethebatteriesorruntheengineforapproximatelytwohourstoprevent
batteryfreezinginambienttemperaturesbelow0°C(32°F).
•
Inspectthebatterycablesandterminals.Cleanandcoatedeachterminalwithacorrosionpreventionproduct.
Engine:
•
Useengineoilwiththecorrectviscosityfortheambienttemperaturerange.
•
Allowlongerwarmupperiodstobringthemachineandcomponentsuptooperatingtemperature.

DONOTuseetherstartinguid.Explosion,death,seriouspersonalinjury,orseriousenginedamage
couldoccur.
Failuretocomplycouldresultindeathorseriousinjury.

Preheatthesystem,ifequipped.TurnthekeyswitchtotheONposition,theenginepreheatlampilluminatesasthe
heaterconditionsindrawnair.See3-12.Waitforthelamptostopilluminatingbeforestartingtheengine.Iftheengine
failstostartaftertwoattempts,allowthebatterytorecoverfor4–5minbeforerepeatingtheprocedure.
Fuelsystem:
•
Checkwithyourdealerforthecorrectcoldweatherfuel.
•
Checkforwaterinthefuelsystem.Inspectthewaterseparatorevery50hofoperation.Ifwaterisfound,check
thefueltank.
•
Fillthefueltankaftereachoperatingdaytopreventcondensationinthefueltankandwaterenteringthefuelsystem.
Coolingsystem
•
Useamixtureof50%ethyleneglycoland50%water.Thismixtureprotectstheenginecoolingsystemto--15.0°C
(5.0°F).
Machinestartupincoldweather
Fullyopenthethrottle.
TurnthekeyswitchtotheONpositionandchecktheinstrumentcluster.
Ifthemachineisequippedwithapreheatsystem,waitfortheenginepreheatlamptostopilluminating.
TurnthekeyswitchtotheSTARTpositionuntiltheenginestarts,thenreleasethekey.
NOTE:Iftheenginefailstostartafteramaximumof15sofsoftcranking,repeatthestartingprocedure.Donot
operatethestartingmotorformorethan60s.
Hottemperatureoperation
Hotweatherconditionscausespecialproblems.Duringthereconditions,yourmachinewillrequirespecialattention
topreventseriousdamage.Hotweathermaintenancewillextendtheservicelifeofyourmachine.
Usethecorrectsolutionofethyleneglycolandwaterinthecoolingsystem.
