Overview

This document describes the Char-Broil Evolve Gas barbecue, available in models 468921224 and 468922224. It is a gas grill designed for outdoor use only, not for indoor or commercial cooking. The appliance must be used in a well-ventilated space, never in enclosed areas such as carports, garages, porches, covered patios, or under any overhead structure. Charcoal or ceramic briquettes should not be used in this gas appliance.

Function Description:

The Char-Broil Evolve Gas barbecue is a gas grill designed for cooking food outdoors. It features multiple main burners and, for some models, a side burner. The grill is equipped with an electronic controller for temperature management and ignition. It includes a lid, cooking grates, a grease tray, and a warming rack. The appliance is designed for use with LP gas cylinders and requires a certified gas regulator.

Important Technical Specifications:

The Char-Broil Evolve Gas barbecue models 468921224 and 468922224 have a total nominal heat input of 8.44 KW (614 g/h) and 7.62 KW (554 g/h) respectively.

  • Gas Category: I3+(28-30/37), I3B/P(30), or I3B/P(50) depending on the model and destination country.
  • Gas Type: Butane, Propane, or a mixture of both.
  • Gas Pressure: Ranges from 28-30 mbar to 50 mbar, depending on the model and destination country.
  • Injector Size (Barbecue): 0.72 x 4 pcs (for 468921224) or 0.58 x 4 pcs (for 468922224).
  • Side Burner Injector Size: N/A for both models.
  • Electrical Rating: 220-240V, 50Hz, 5W.
  • Cylinder Placement: Maximum diameter of 340mm and maximum height (including regulator) of 400mm. Larger cylinders should be placed under the side shelf or behind the barbecue, not under the hot plate.
  • Hose Requirements: Approved hose certified to EN standard, not exceeding 1.5m in length (1.2m for Finland).

Usage Features:

  • Ignition: The grill is ignited electronically. To light, plug in the AC power cord, open the lid, turn ON gas at the LP cylinder, press the power button on the controller, turn the knob to the desired temperature, then press and release the knob to ignite. The grill re-ignites automatically with the lid closed, but the lid should be opened before the first ignition.
  • Temperature Control: The electronic controller allows setting the desired temperature. If ignition fails, an error code can be cleared by pressing and holding the power button to turn off the grill, waiting 5 minutes, and repeating the procedure.
  • Food Probe: The grill supports food probes for monitoring internal food temperature. Ensure the probe is fully seated in the jack and inserted into the thickest part of the food, avoiding bone or cooking grates for accurate readings.
  • Connectivity: The grill can connect to a mobile device via Bluetooth for remote control and monitoring. It also supports Wi-Fi connectivity (2.4GHz networks only) for extended control.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Never operate unattended or within 3m (10ft) of structures, combustible materials, or other gas cylinders.
    • Maintain 7.5m (25ft) clearance from flammable liquids.
    • In case of a grease fire, do not use water; turn off knobs and the gas cylinder.
    • Always turn off gas at the cylinder and disconnect the regulator before moving the gas cylinder.
    • Do not modify the appliance or manipulate sealed parts.
    • Use long-handled barbecue utensils and protective gloves when handling hot components.
    • The maximum load for the side shelf is 4.5 Kg.
    • The grease cup must be inserted and emptied after each use, only when the appliance has completely cooled.
    • Be cautious when opening the lid due to hot steam.
    • Keep children, the elderly, and pets away from the appliance during use.
    • Do not store objects that block combustion air flow in the appliance cart enclosure.
    • Do not disconnect or change the gas container within 3m of an open flame.
    • Ensure the connected hose does not touch warm surfaces.
    • Perform a leak test before first use, annually, and every time the cylinder is changed or disconnected.

Maintenance Features:

  • General Cleaning: Regular cleaning is essential to prevent grease fires. After each use, remove food particles from cooking grates and inside the grill using a Char-Broil Cool-Clean Brush. Char-Broil Grate Cleaner can be sprayed on grates, left for 10 minutes, and wiped off with a wet cloth or brush after the grill has cooled.
  • CLEAN Setting: An innovative CLEAN setting uses high heat from the burners to turn food debris into ash. After grilling, press and hold the CLEAN icon on the controller until "CLN" is displayed. Once cooled, use a Char-Broil Cool-Clean Brush to remove ash. For extra shine, use Char-Broil Grate Cleaner as a final step.
  • Burner Assembly Cleaning:
    1. Turn off gas at the LP cylinder.
    2. Remove cooking grates, carryover tubes, and burner hardware.
    3. Detach the electrode from the burner.
    4. Carefully lift burners from valve openings.
    5. Clean burner tubes using a stiff wire (coat hanger), a narrow bottle brush, or compressed air (with eye protection).
    6. Wire brush the entire outer surface of the burner to remove food residue and dirt.
    7. Clean blocked ports with a stiff wire.
    8. Inspect burners for damage (cracks, enlarged holes) and replace if necessary.
    9. Reattach electrode and flame sensor to burner, then reassemble burners, carryover tubes, and cooking grates.
    10. Perform a "Leak Test" and "Burner Flame Check" before cooking again.
  • Spider Alert: If the grill is hard to light or has a weak flame, check and clean the venturis and burners. Spiders or insects can build nests, obstructing gas flow and causing "flashback" problems.
  • Storage: Clean cooking grates and store in a dry location. If the gas cylinder is connected, store outdoors in a well-ventilated area, out of reach of children. Cover the appliance if stored outdoors. Store indoors ONLY if the gas cylinder is turned off, disconnected, removed, and stored outdoors. Check for burner obstructions before using after storage.
