S.A.E. 90 "Multi-Purpose" Gear Lubricant
Caution: Straight Mineral on Gear Lubricants must not be used
in Hypoid Rear Axles or Z-Speed Rear Axles.
The S.A.E. 90 viscosity grade is recommend ed for "year-
arou nd" service. H owever, when extremely low temperatures
are encountered for protracted periods during the winter
months, the S.A.E. 80 viscosity grade may be used.
"Muit i·Purpose " Gear Lubricants. Gear lubricants that will
satisfactorily lubricate both passenger car and truck hypoid
rear axles, have been dev eloped. These lubricants are known
as "Multi-Purpose" Gear Lubricants.
"Multi-Purpose" Gear Lubricants may also be used in pas-
senger car and truck transmission, steeri ng gears, and in uni-
versal joints requiring a fluid lubricant.
"Multi· Purpose" Gear Lubricants must be carefully com ·
pounded and of the lat est non-corr~sive type and of proven
quality. The lubri cant manufacturer must be responsible for
the satisfactory performance of his product . Hi s reputation is
your best indicatio n of quality .
. Lubricant Additions. The lubrica nt level in the hou sing sho uld
be checked peri08.ically and with unit at operating tempera ture,
lubr icant shoul d be level with bottom of fi ller plug hole.
It is recommended that any additions required to bring up
the lubricant l eve l be made, using the same type of lubricant
as in the housing.
Lubricant Changes. Seasonal changes of the lubric ant are not
required. When refilling is necessary. refill with l ubr i cant
recommended above.
