SAFETY & SECURITY
HILL START ASSIST
Assists the driver when starting a vehicle from a stop on a hill. For a short period of time, Hill Start Assist maintains the same level of brake pressure the driver originally applied, but
after the foot has been removed from the brake pedal. The system will release the brake pedal in proportion to the amount of throttle applied. If the throttle is not applied within a short
period of time after the foot has been removed from the brake pedal, Hill Start Assist will automatically release brake pressure.
REAR CROSS-PATH DETECTION
(5)
In many situations — like in parking lots or driveways — this system warns drivers backing out of parking spaces of traffic moving toward their vehicle. It activates any time the vehicle is
in Reverse. The driver is notified of vehicle(s) crossing behind the vehicle via illuminated icons on the sideview mirror and with a driver-selected audible chime.
SELEC-SPEED
TM
CONTROL
Selec-Speed adds Hill Ascent Control to the familiar Hill Descent Control. Hill Ascent Control engages the throttle to help provide stable low-range control when going uphill, where Hill
Descent Control uses engine and physical braking to aid in vehicle control when going downhill.
PARALLEL/PERPENDICULAR PARK ASSIST
Using ultrasonic parking sensors on the bumper, the system will find and guide the operator into a parking space when the driver initiates a parking maneuver. The parking guidance
system controls the steering angle automatically; the driver controls the gear position, brake and accelerator. Parallel parking is possible on either side of the car; during perpendicular
parking, the vehicle is automatically backed into the appropriate space.
FORWARD COLLISION WARNING
(15)
(FCW)
The FCW system is an in-vehicle electronic system that uses radar to monitor the roadway in front of the vehicle and warns the driver when a potential collision risk exists. Although the
system can discern the distance, horizontal direction and angle and relative speed between the vehicle and the vehicle or object ahead of it in the lane, the warning does not take any
automatic action to avoid a collision or to control the vehicle; the driver must remain responsible for the safe operation of the vehicle using both steering and braking, if safe to do so,
to avoid a crash.
FORWARD COLLISION WARNING-PLUS
This modification to the Forward Collision Warning addresses traffic-gap changes when Adaptive Cruise Control-Plus is inactive. When radar and video sensors detect a fast-closing
obstacle ahead, the system pre-fills the brakes to prepare for emergency driver intervention. If collision risk remains, Forward Collision Warning-Plus correspondingly ratchets up the
response with audible and visual warnings, followed by a brief brake deployment to alert the driver; then, a 1.5-second brake deployment to quicken the driver’s reaction time, and, if the
driver is not braking aggressively enough, actual deployment of the Advanced Brake Assist (ABA) system.
