Removing the Chassis Cover
Removing the Cover from Cisco 2821 and Cisco 2851 Routers
Follow these steps to remove the chassis cover. A number 2 Phillips screwdriver is required.
Rack-mounted routers must be removed from the rack and positioned on a flat surface before you start
removing the cover.
The following warning applies only if the router is provided with a DC-power input:
Warning
Before performing any of the following procedures, ensure that power is removed from the DC circuit.
Statement 1003
Step 1 Make sure that the router is turned off and disconnected from its power source.
Warning
Before opening the unit, disconnect the telephone-network cables to avoid contact with
telephone-network voltages.
Statement 1041
Step 2 Disconnect all network interface cables from the rear panel of the router.
Step 3 Place the router on a flat surface. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the three screws at the rear of the
top cover. Set the screws aside in a safe place.
Step 4 Lift the cover up to a 45-degree angle. (See Figure 7.)
Step 5 Slide the cover to the side (toward the side with the fans) until the tabs are free from the slots. (See
Figure 7.)
