Operation and maintenance
Dessicant regeneration
During its normal operation the salt starts changing
colour due to its moisture absorption. It is possible to
carry out a regeneration in order to dry back the salt. This
operation can be easily made by heating the silica gel at
a temperature between 120°C and 150°C, until its colour
changes to the original one.
Handling
Handling: Avoid creating any dust. Do not smoke. During
handling electrostatic charges can accumulate (see BS
5958 for advice on the control of static.)
Storage
The air breather must be stored in the original packing
and in a dry place with temperature in the range -10÷40°C
(14÷104 °F).
Upon receiving the device, please check:
• the outer surface of the packaging to ensure that it is
intact
• that there are no breakages.
If damages are found, please contact COMEM and provide
the information from the shipping list and the serial num-
ber of the air breather.
Before installing verify the colour status of the silica gel.
It has to be orange.
Silica gel bag
In case then silica gel is bought like spare part, it must be
stored in the original packing and in a dry place with tem-
perature in the range - 10÷40°C (14÷104 °F). Before using it
verify the colour status of the silica gel. It has to be orange.
During the transformer transport, COMEM advises to
disassemble the air breather and to place it inside the original
box (mainly for bigger size, type 5-6-7-8).
DON’T PAINT the device. In this case any guarantees concerning
the corrosion resistance decline.
Solvents must not be used for any reason, as they will degrade
the performance of the paint. Use of solvents on the unit will
immediately void the warranty.
CAUTION
Cleaning
Only mild soap and water should be used to clean the
external surface . Solvents must not be used for any
