7. Starting the Engine
N.B. Pull thestarter handle (8) straight out. If you pull at anangle thestarter cord will rub on thesleeve and soon
wear out. Keep hold of thestarting handle after pulling it and allow it to return slowly. Never let go of thestarting
handle straight after pulling it, it could get tangled or break something on thetrimmer.
Caution! Only start theengine outdoors, in awell-ventilated place; exhaust fumes are poisonous.
N.B. See theTroubleshooting section if thetrimmer doesn’t start after several attempts.
Running in the engine
A new engine should be “run in” by using it at low speed and with low resistance for thefirst few hours.
This will help all themoving parts of theengine to loosen up and mate together better and will ultimately
lengthen theuseful life of theengine.
After theinitial running period theengine can be fully loaded and run at full power. However, do not run
the engine at full throttle for long periods at atime.
7.1 Starting the engine from cold
Cut thetrimmer line to alength of 13 cm before
starting to reduce theload while thetrimmer warms up.
1. Place thegrass trimmer on ahard and
level surface.
2. Press in thetrigger lockout (6) and thetrigger (7),
then press in thethrottle lock (17) on theinside of
thehandle so that thethrottle stays pressed in.
3. Switch theignition switch (5) to I.
4. Lift thechoke lever (13) up to activate thechoke
(close thechoke valve).
5. Pump theprimer pump bulb (9) 10 times (the
primer pump bulb is located on thebottom of
thecarburettor).
6. Pull thestarter handle until you feel some
resistance. Pull thehandle 4 or 5 times gently
but firmly in quick succession (do not pull
thecord thewhole way out on thefirst attempt).
7. As soon as theengine has started or fired,
the choke lever should be lowered to the
“open” position.
8. Let theengine run without any load for
10 seconds once started.
