The Danfoss TS715Si is an electronic single-channel timeswitch designed to manage heating and hot water systems, allowing users to set specific "On" and "Off" time periods to suit their lifestyle. This device acts as a programmer, enabling the scheduling of up to three separate ON/OFF times per day, providing flexibility in managing energy consumption.
Function Description:
The primary function of the TS715Si is to control the operation of a heating system by switching it on and off at programmed times. It features preset programmes that are often suitable for most users, but these can be easily customized. The timeswitch supports different operating modes, which are typically configured by an installer:
- 5/2 Day Mode: Allows for one set of programmes for weekdays (Monday to Friday) and a different set for weekends (Saturday and Sunday).
- 7 Day Mode: Provides the flexibility to set different ON/OFF times for each day of the week, offering granular control over the heating schedule.
- 24 Hour Mode: Applies a single set of programmes for the entire week, simplifying scheduling for consistent routines.
The device includes a clear LCD display that shows the current time, day, and operational status (ON, OFF, AUTO, ALLDAY). A red light on the front of the unit indicates its operational status.
Usage Features:
- Setting Time and Date: The TS715Si allows users to set the correct year, month, and day. The day of the week is automatically determined once the date is set. The time can be adjusted in 10-minute increments.
- 24hr or AM/PM Display: Users can toggle between a 24-hour clock format and an AM/PM display, depending on their preference.
- Programming ON/OFF Times:
- Preset Programmes: The unit comes with factory preset programmes that can be accepted if they meet the user's needs.
- Custom Programming: Users can easily change the preset ON/OFF times for each event (up to three ON/OFF pairs per day). The programming process is sequential, ensuring that times are set in a logical order. If a user does not wish to use all three ON/OFF settings, they can program the ON time to be the same as the OFF time, which will effectively disable that specific setting.
- Copy Function: In 5/2 day mode, if the same settings are desired for Saturday and Sunday, a "COPY" button can be used to replicate the settings, saving time during programming. In 7 day mode, the "COPY" button allows users to copy the previous day's settings to the current day.
- Running Programmes: Once programmed, the unit operates in "RUN" mode, controlling the heating and hot water according to the set schedules.
- Operating Modes (SELECT button): The "SELECT" button allows users to cycle through different operational modes:
- AUTO: The system will automatically switch on and off at the programmed times.
- ON: The system will remain on continuously, overriding the programmed schedule.
- OFF: The system will remain off, overriding the programmed schedule.
- ALLDAY: The system will turn on at the first programmed ON time and stay on until the last programmed OFF time, effectively extending the heating period.
- Temporary Override Buttons:
- +1HR Override: When the unit is in AUTO or ALLDAY mode, pressing the "+1HR" button will cause the system to remain on for an additional hour. If the system is currently OFF, pressing "+1HR" will turn it on for one hour and then switch it off again. This is indicated by "+1HR" on the display.
- MAN (Manual) Override: When in AUTO or ALLDAY mode, pressing the "MAN" button will switch the system OFF until the next programmed ON time, or vice versa (if it's OFF, it will switch ON until the next programmed OFF time). "MAN" will be displayed to indicate this override is active. These overrides are temporary and do not affect the stored programme.
- Holiday Programme: The TS715Si includes a holiday feature that allows users to set a return date. The heating system will automatically come back on at the programmed times upon the user's return, ensuring comfort without needing manual adjustment on arrival.
- Automatic Time Change: The unit is designed to handle daylight saving changes (Summer to Winter and Winter to Summer) automatically. However, if this feature has been disabled by the installer, manual adjustment is possible by pressing and holding the appropriate button (- for clocks back, + for clocks forward).
Maintenance Features:
- Full Reset: In cases where the unit needs to be fully reset (excluding date and time settings), a specific sequence of button presses (+1HR and MAN, then RESET) can be followed. After a full reset, the unit will need to be re-programmed with the desired ON/OFF times.
- Service Interval Timer: This is a gas safety feature, typically set by a landlord or installer.
- Warning System: 28 days before a boiler service is due, the unit will provide a momentary visual and audible warning daily at noon, reminding the user that service is required within the next 28 days.
- Operational Restrictions: If the boiler is not serviced within 28 days, the daily audible warning will sound for one minute at the beginning of each hour and must be cancelled daily by pressing any button. Additionally, all override and programming buttons will be disabled, and the heating and hot water will operate for only a set portion of each programmed hour to encourage service.
- Viewing Service Due Date: When the service interval timer is active, the service due date can be viewed in RUN mode by pressing and holding the "COPY" button.
- Resetting the Timer: The service interval timer can only be cancelled or reset by an installer as part of the boiler service.
- Fault Check List: The user guide provides a comprehensive fault check list for common issues such as "No Hot Water" and "No Heating." This list guides users through a series of diagnostic steps, checking components like the red light indicator, thermostat settings, boiler operation, and reset buttons, before recommending contacting a heating engineer. This helps users troubleshoot minor issues themselves and ensures that the programmer and other controls are returned to their required settings after any adjustments or heating events.
