Overview

This document is a user and installation manual for an absorption refrigerator, specifically model XCD-90B, designed for recreational vehicles (RVs) such as caravans and motor homes.

Function Description

The refrigerator is an absorption-type appliance, meaning it uses a heat source (gas, AC, or DC) to drive a cooling cycle, rather than a compressor. It is designed to store and cool food, with a separate freezer compartment for frozen items. The unit is intended for built-in installation within a cupboard enclosure in an RV.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Model: XCD-90B
  • Gas Type: PROPANE, pressure 11"w.c.
  • AC Operation: 110-120V 60Hz
  • DC Operation: DC 12V
  • Installation Dimensions (Enclosure Opening):
    • Width: At least 20.7" (526 mm)
    • Depth: 22.8" (580 mm)
    • Height: 29.8" (758 mm)
  • Ventilation: Requires a lower and upper vent, each with a minimum opening of 250 cm². For the second installation type, the upper roof vent requires two rectangles of 20.5" x 3.9" (520mm x 100mm) in the roof, and the ventilation grilles must have an open cross-section of at least 400 cm².
  • Door Panel Dimensions: 19.1" (485±0.5mm) wide by 26.3" (670±0.5mm) high, with a thickness of 4 mm or less.
  • Electrical Wiring:
    • Main AC supply cord: H05VV-F, minimum cross-sectional area of conductors 18AWG.
    • DC heater conductors: Minimum cross-sectional area 14AWG.
    • LED lamp conductors: Minimum cross-sectional area 18AWG.
  • Safety: The cooling unit has been pressure tested at 15 Mpa, showing no leakage or deformation, complying with ANSI Z21.74, 1.10. An all-pole disconnection device rated at least 20A is required for battery supply connection, providing full disconnection under overvoltage category III conditions. The burner/flue system and gas line must be completely sealed from the living area. Installation of a carbon monoxide detector in the vehicle is strongly recommended. The furniture surrounding the refrigerator must not be flammable.

Usage Features

  • Multi-Energy Source Operation: The refrigerator can operate on propane gas, 110-120V AC, or 12V DC power, offering flexibility for various RV scenarios.
  • Control Panel: Features a power selector knob (A) for choosing between gas, AC, DC, or off modes, a battery igniter button (B) for gas operation, a flame indicator (C), a safety valve button (D), and a thermostat knob (E) for temperature regulation.
  • Gas Operation: Requires opening the gas cylinder and shut-off valves. The igniter button (B) and safety valve button (D) are used to light the flame, with the flame indicator (C) confirming ignition. The safety valve button must be held for 10-15 seconds after ignition.
  • AC Operation: Simply set the power selector knob to AC mode and connect to AC power.
  • DC Operation: Primarily designed for use while driving to prevent rapid battery discharge.
  • Temperature Regulation: The thermostat knob (E) allows adjustment of the internal temperature when operating on AC or gas. DC power is not regulated by the thermostat.
  • Defrosting: Regular defrosting is recommended when frost reaches about 3 mm thickness to maintain efficiency. The process involves turning off the refrigerator, removing food and ice trays, and allowing frost to melt.
  • Winter Operation: A winter cover should be fitted if ambient temperatures fall below 10°C to protect the cooling unit and maintain performance.
  • Door Panel Customization: The doors are designed to accept decorative panels (4mm thick or less) to match the kitchen décor.
  • Internal Lighting: Uses an LED lamp with high brightness and long service life, controlled by the door switch, illuminating automatically when the door is opened.
  • Food Storage Guidelines: Emphasizes proper food wrapping, avoiding direct sunlight, ensuring air circulation, and not storing flammable or explosive substances. It also highlights the importance of considering vehicle conditions (high ambient temperature, 12V source use during long trips) that might affect cooling performance for perishable foods.

Maintenance Features

  • Gas Hose Inspection: Periodically check for cracks or chafing marks. Leakage tests should be performed with soap solution, never an open flame.
  • Cleaning:
    • Refrigerator Interior/Exterior: Wipe with a damp cloth, using vinegar in water to prevent mold.
    • Cooling Unit: Clean the unit behind the refrigerator with a brush periodically (when switched off).
    • Burner: Clean openings and screen with a toothbrush. Inspect and clean the electrode and thermocouple, tightening screws as needed. Check spark creation. Do not use thin objects to clean the injector.
    • Cooling System and Flue Tube: Annual cleaning is required to prevent carbon monoxide buildup. This involves removing the exhaust pipe extension and spiral flue baffle, cleaning the baffle with a stiff brush or emery cloth, and cleaning the flue tube with a flue brush.
  • Heating Element Replacement: Instructions are provided for safely replacing the heating element, which involves disconnecting power, removing covers, accessing the heater, and reconnecting leads.
  • Battery Replacement (for electronic spark ignition): The battery is located inside the right lamp box and can be replaced by removing the light cover.
  • Troubleshooting: A checklist is provided for common issues (refrigerator not working, not cold enough) before calling a service technician.
  • Safety Warning: The sealed cooling system must not be opened due to high-pressure corroding chemicals. Only certified technicians are allowed to perform service.
