Overview

This document describes the Viper 4105V keyless entry and remote start system, manufactured by Directed. Directed is a company specializing in vehicle security and accessories, holding numerous patents and innovation awards in advanced electronic technology. Their products are sold and serviced globally.

Function Description

The Viper 4105V system provides keyless entry and remote start capabilities for fuel-injected, automatic transmission vehicles. Its primary purpose is to enhance vehicle security and convenience.

Key Features:

  • Keyless Entry: Allows locking and unlocking of vehicle doors remotely.
  • Remote Start: Enables starting the vehicle's engine from a distance, allowing for pre-warming or pre-cooling of the interior.
  • Panic Mode: Activates the vehicle's horn (or optional siren) and flashes parking lights to attract attention in threatening situations.
  • Optional Starter Disable (Failsafe® Starter Disable): Prevents the vehicle's starter from cranking when the system is locked, adding an extra layer of security. This feature can be manually overridden if the remote control is lost or damaged.
  • Key Takeover (Valet® Takeover): A procedure to seamlessly transfer control from remote start to the vehicle's ignition, allowing the user to drive off without the engine shutting down.
  • Safety Features: Incorporates various safety mechanisms to prevent accidental remote start or operation under unsafe conditions, such as when the foot brake is depressed, the hood is open, or the vehicle is not in PARK.
  • Pit Stop Mode: Allows the engine to continue running for a programmed duration even after the ignition key is removed, useful for short stops.
  • Car Finder: Flashes the parking lights to help locate the vehicle in a parking lot.
  • Optional Starter Anti-Grind Circuitry: Protects the starter motor from damage if the ignition key is turned to the start position while the remote start is active (requires an optional relay).
  • Garage Mode: A safety feature that disables the remote start system, Timer Mode, and Pit Stop Mode when the vehicle is parked in a garage, being serviced, or used by someone unfamiliar with remote start systems.
  • Timer Mode: Automatically starts the engine every three hours for a maximum of six starts, useful for maintaining battery charge or interior temperature in extreme weather.
  • Optional Rear Window Defogger Control: When activated, the defogger turns on whenever the vehicle is remote started (requires additional parts and labor).
  • Rapid Resume Logic: Stores the system's current state in non-volatile memory, allowing it to recall its last state if power is disconnected and reconnected.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Remote Control Power: The remote control is powered by two 3V CR2016 batteries.
  • Remote Control Capacity: The system can accept up to four remote controls.
  • Remote Start Run Time: Programmable from 12 minutes to 60 minutes, in minute increments.
  • Parking Light Behavior during Remote Start: Can be programmed to flash or remain constantly on.
  • Ignition Controlled Door Locking: Optional feature where doors lock three seconds after ignition is turned on and unlock when ignition is turned off (requires door lock installation).

Usage Features

  • Remote Control Buttons: The remote control features four primary buttons for locking, unlocking, remote start, and silent mode/auxiliary functions.
  • Control Center: A component typically located on the front windshield, consisting of an antenna, an LED indicator for system status, and a button for Valet Mode and Emergency Override.
  • Standard Configuration:
    • Lock: Press the lock button for one second. Holding for two seconds activates Panic Mode.
    • Unlock: Press the unlock button for one second. Can also turn Panic off.
    • Remote Start: Press the remote start button for one second (or programmed number of times).
    • Silent Mode/Auxiliary Channel: Press the AUX button for less than one second for Silent Mode. Press and hold AUX for approximately two seconds for an optional auxiliary function (e.g., trunk release).
    • Car Finder: Press the lock and AUX buttons simultaneously.
    • Optional Rear Window Defogger: Simultaneously press the lock, remote start, and AUX buttons.
    • Timer Mode: Simultaneously press the lock and unlock buttons.
  • Remote Start Activation: Requires the parking brake to be set, then pressing the remote start button. Parking lights flash to confirm the attempt.
  • Disabling Starter Disable: Turn the ignition ON, then press and release the Control button within 10 seconds.
  • Turning Garage Mode ON/OFF: Turn ignition ON then OFF. Within 10 seconds, press and release the Control Center button once. Parking lights flash nine times quickly for ON, nine times slowly for OFF.
  • Remote Start Diagnostics: If remote start fails, the parking lights will flash a specific number of times to indicate the issue (e.g., 5 flashes for brake on, 6 for hood open, 8 for neutral safety disconnected, 9 for Garage Mode ON).

Maintenance Features

  • Battery Replacement: The remote control batteries (two 3V CR2016) can be replaced by prying open the case, removing old batteries, inserting new ones with correct polarity, and snapping the case back together.
  • Battery Disposal: Directed encourages responsible disposal of batteries in accordance with municipal requirements.
  • Professional Installation and Upgrades: Due to system complexity, installation and any upgrades must be performed by an authorized Directed dealer. Unauthorized modifications will void the warranty.
  • Warranty: The system comes with a limited lifetime consumer warranty for the main unit, provided it was purchased from and installed by an authorized Directed dealer. Other components (siren, remote transmitters, sensors, accessories) carry a one-year warranty. The warranty is non-transferable and voided by defaced serial numbers, modifications, misuse, or damage not due to material defects. It does not cover labor costs for maintenance, removal, or reinstallation.

Safety Warnings:

  • Never remote start the vehicle with keys in the ignition (except during Valet® Takeover) or if it is not in PARK.
  • Never operate the vehicle's motor in an enclosed or partially enclosed area without ventilation due to the risk of harmful gas buildup.
  • Ensure the neutral safety feature is periodically checked by an authorized dealer to confirm the vehicle does not remotely start while in gear.
  • Installation in a standard transmission vehicle is dangerous and contrary to its intended use.
  • The product is not designed to be water and/or heat-resistant; exposure to these elements will void the warranty.
  • It is recommended to install a carbon monoxide detector in living areas adjacent to vehicle storage areas, and all doors leading to these areas must be closed during remote start operation.
