What to do if my DR SP30 engine will not start?
    • B
      Barbara HernandezAug 14, 2025
First, ensure the Key Switch is in the RUN position and the blade control Bail Bar is NOT in operating position. Check for proper attachment of the Spark Plug wire and ensure the Engine has the right amount of oil. If the gas is old, replace it with fresh, clean, unleaded gas, and consider using a fuel stabilizer if storing gas for more than a month. Also, check that the Air Filter and Spark Plug are clean; replace them if dirty or cracked. If the Spark Plug is oily, remove it, cover the hole with a rag, pull the Recoil Cord to clear oil from the Cylinder, then clean and reinsert the Spark Plug.

If your DR Lawn Mower's engine is smoking, start by checking the oil level and adjusting it as necessary. Avoid operating the machine on steep inclines. Inspect the Air Filter and clean or replace it if needed. Ensure you're using the correct type of oil, referring to your Engine Owner’s Manual for guidance. Also, make sure the Engine cooling fins and the carburetor housing are clean.

Why does my DR Lawn Mower engine lack power?

      Jeremy WellsAug 21, 2025
If your DR Lawn Mower engine lacks power or isn't running smoothly, first check if the height of cut settings are too low, and raise them if the grass is high. If the engine is cold, allow it to warm up fully. Clear any grass or debris from the bottom of the mower housing and the Air Filter Intake. Ensure the Air Filter is clean, replacing it if necessary. Remove the Spark Plug wire and dry the connection if it's wet. Replace a dirty or cracked Spark Plug, and use fresh, clean, unleaded gas instead of old gas. Finally, check that the Engine has the correct amount of oil.

Check the Engine oil level and add oil if it is low. If there may be an oil compression lock in the Cylinder, take out the Spark Plug; hold a rag over the Spark Plug hole and pull the Recoil Cord several times to blow out any oil in the Cylinder.
