Table 8. Configurable relay functions (continued).
Condition/function
name
Description of relay operation:
The relay will close
when …
The relay will open
when …
Internal alarm There is an internal fault
detected
RESET button is pressed
or communications reset
command received
Health warning
(relay #1 default non-
ARMS styles)
Health value is below
setpoint (adjustable from
10 to 50%)
Health value is at or
above setpoint
Communication alarm Any external
communications error
occurs
RESET button is pressed
or communications reset
command received
Alarm present Any of the internal,
health, communication,
or battery alarms are
active
All of the referenced
faults are inactive
Over voltage Voltage is greater than
or equal to setpoints for
pickup and time (ANSI
59)
If set as alarm: voltage is
less than pickup;
If set as TRIP: RESET
pressed or reset
command received.
Under voltage Voltage is less than or
equal to setpoints for
pickup and time (ANSI
27)
If set as ALARM: voltage
is greater than pickup;
If set as TRIP: RESET
pressed or reset
command received.
Voltage unbalance Voltage unbalance is
greater than or equal to
setpoints for pickup and
time (ANSI 47)
If set as ALARM: voltage
unbalance is less than
pickup;
If set as TRIP: RESET
pressed or reset
command received.
Current unbalance Current unbalance is
greater than or equal to
setpoints for pickup and
time (ANSI 46)
If set as ALARM: current
unbalance is less than
pickup;
If set as TRIP: RESET
pressed or reset
command received.
Reverse active power Reverse active power is
greater than or equal to
setpoints for pickup and
time (ANSI 32R)
If set as ALARM: reverse
active power is less than
pickup;
If set as TRIP: RESET
pressed or reset
command received.
Over power demand Real power demand is
greater than or equal
to setpoints for pickup
and time
If set for ALARM: real
power demand is less
than pickup;
If set as TRIP: RESET
pressed or reset
command received.
Phase loss (current) At least one phase is
less than or equal to
75% of another phase
for configured time
setpoint
If set as ALARM: no
phase is less than or
equal to 75% of another;
If set as TRIP: RESET
pressed or reset
command received.
Overload trip There is a long or over-
temperature trip
RESET button is pressed
or communications reset
command received
Neutral current trip There is a neutral current
trip
RESET button is pressed
or communications reset
command received
Short delay trip There is a short delay
trip
RESET button is pressed
or communications reset
command received
Instantaneous trip There is an
instantaneous trip or
withstand (override) trip
RESET button is pressed
or communications reset
command received
Table 8. Configurable relay functions (continued).
Condition/function
name
Description of relay operation:
The relay will close
when …
The relay will open
when …
Short circuit trip There is a short, inst. or
withstand (override) trip
RESET button is pressed
or communications reset
command received
Ground fault trip
(relay #2 default, GF
styles)
There is a ground fault
trip
RESET button is pressed
or communications reset
command received
Maintenance mode
(ARMS) trip
There is a maintenance
mode trip
RESET button is pressed
or communications reset
command received
Any current protection
trip
(relay #3 factory default)
There is any type of
protective current trip
(overload, neutral, short
delay, instantaneous,
short circuit, ground
fault, maintenance mode)
RESET button is pressed
or communications reset
command received
Mechanism trip There was a “sneaker”
trip because the
mechanism position
switch indicates open
but there is measurable
current
RESET button is pressed
or communications reset
command received
Open breaker pulsed An OPEN breaker
command from any of
the communications
channels is received
Two seconds after the
OPEN breaker command
is received
Close breaker pulsed A CLOSE breaker
command from any of
the communications
channels is received
Two seconds after the
CLOSE breaker command
is received
Remote control An output ON command
for the relay specified
in the command is
received on any of
the communications
channels
An output OFF command
for the relay specified
in the command is
received on any of
the communications
channels
4.2.1 Wiring and configuration for remote open/close
The on-board relays may be used to energize a shunt trip
(ST) to open the circuit breaker or a spring release (SR) to
close the circuit breaker when commanded via Modbus.
Consult IL2C14762 & IL2C14761 for details on the shunt trip
(ST) and spring release (SR) accessories.
To accomplish this requires three elements:
 •
Mapping the on-board relays to act using the open breaker
pulsed or close breaker pulsed function;
 •
Wiring the on-board relays to an interposing relay to
subsequently connect a power source to the ST/SR; and
 •
Programming a Modbus client to send the open breaker
pulsed or close breaker pulsed commands.
To open the breaker, an on-board relay should be chosen and
mapped to the open breaker pulsed function. Do not map
the same relay to any other functions or the ST will energize
unexpectedly when that function causes the relay to close.
The mapping can be accomplished using the display: Main
menu -> Edit Settings -> Relay Config -> Open Command.
