6. Monitoring and testing
6.1 Monitoring from a supervisory system
The PXR is easy to integrate within a system using the inte-
grated Modbus RTU or Ethernet w/ Modbus TCP module.
The trip unit provides real time status and data for use by
your supervisory system. The detailed Modbus register
map including network configuration options is shown in
Section 9 - Modbus register map.
The three on-board relays may also be used to provide
discrete signals to an event recording or monitoring system.
See Section 4.2 - Configurable relays for details on the
configuration and behavior of the relays.
6.2 Event recording and waveform capture
The PXR trip unit will automatically record information
surrounding events, alarms, and trips into a set of logs. For
simple events, only the cause of the event and a timestamp
(based on the trip unit’s real time clock) are stored. More
important events additionally store a snapshot of real time
values of currents, voltages, and power. The most signifi-
cant also store waveforms of current and voltage experi-
enced during the event. The event records and waveforms
are viewed and printed using the Power Xpert Protection
Manager software.
Each log can store a certain quantity of events and is
managed as a first-in first-out buffer (FIFO). As the informa-
tion is stored for the most recent event, the information
from the oldest event is eliminated.
