Step 8: Connect PV modules to IQ8 Commercial Microinverter
A. IQ8 Commercial Microinverter has an Enphase EN4 bulkhead for DC connection and bulkhead
adapter cable for EN4 to MC4 connection. If your PV modules have TE PV4S SOLARLOK
connectors, you may plug them directly into the IQ8 Commercial Microinverter with EN4
bulkhead. Or use the adapter cable for PV modules with MC4 connectors. If your PV module
has any other connector, use the EN4 to non-terminated adapter cable for connection with
the PV module connector installed in the field.
B. When using adapters, make sure they are fully seated. Do not reverse the adapter
connections. When using an adapter cable, ensure that EN4 (TE PV4S SOLARLOK)
connectors are used for connection with the microinverter. Refer to the label on the adapter
cables. IQ8 Commercial Series Microinverter bulkhead and adapter male and female DC
connectors must only be mated with the identical type and manufacturer brand of
male/female connector.
C. Microinverter mounting needs to be decided according to PV module placement (landscape,
portrait, ballast E/W), racking hardware used for mounting the module, and microinverter
mounting hardware.
In installations where DC cables from the PV modules are unable to reach the IQ8 Commercial
Microinverter, installers can use optional 1-meter EN4 to MC4 extension cable SKUs, which are
available in both terminated and non-terminated options.
• PV Module DC cable length and location of junction box for the module (split cell vs
full cell).
• Type of racking hardware used and PV module mounting on racking.
• Microinverter mounting location.
• Type of DC connector on the PV module (MC4 or any other manufacturer).
The installer needs to evaluate the DC cable connectors and length requirement based on the
above factors and choose the correct extension cable required to connect PV modules to IQ8
Commercial Microinverter, ensuring proper wire management for DC cable, which includes:
• Proper routing of the PV module DC cable as well as the EN4 to MC4 extension cable
using the clips to prevent the leads from resting on the roof.
