9•2•1 HYDROSTATIC OIL TANK LEVEL CHECK
• Engine’s stopped whilst the controls.
• Position the machine on a flat surface.
• Open the engine bonnet.
The oil level must be kept between the [MINI] and [MAXI] marks
on the tank side at all times (picture 16).
• Top up with quality oil HV 46. Etesia recommends Shell Tellus T46
oil ref. 29592 (2 liters can).
• The top up operation is to do at the nipple (a picture 33).
• Use a 25 µ filtration unit (ref. 29977).
• Connect the female connecting piece of the filtering unit to the male
piece of the hydraulic tank after you’ve removed the protection cap
and cleaning the tank’s male connecting piece.
• When filling with oil, remove the air filter.
Use the filtering unit ETESIA ref. 29977 exclusively for
filtering the oil HV46.
• Remove the air filter from the hydraulic oil tank (b picture 33).
• Open the battery cover and disconnect the electrical cable from the
battery (see section 9•3 battery maintenance).
• Make sure that the ON / OFF switch is on OFF.
• Connect the filtering unit cables, first to the negative terminal
(blue), then to the positive one.
• Dip the suction tube (without the connector on the end) in the oil to
be transferred.
•
Start up the unit with the switch.
• As soon as the desired level is reached :
-
stop the unit by turning the switch to off.
-
disconnect the unit from the battery (the blue negative terminal
first).
- disconnect the hydraulic hoses and replace the air filter.
IMPORTANT ! The unit transfers about 3 litres per minute.
Take care not to exceed the maximum level indicated on the tank and
always keep the suction tube under the oil level so as to avoid taking
in air.
9•2•2 REPLACING THE CARTRIDGE OF THE
HYDRAULIC FILTER
• Unscrew the old cartridge by turning it in the anticlockwise direc-
tion.
• Before placing the new filter oil the gasket with clean oil.
• Manually screw in the new cartridge (filtration degree 25 µm absolute)
till the seal is tight. Now give a 1/2 to 3/4 turn.
• Start up the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
• Stop the engine and check if the cartridge is tight and check the oil
level in the tank.
• Top up if required.
• When filling with oil, remove the air filter.
9•2•3 REPLACING THE AIR FILTER OF THE
HYDRAULIC TANK (EVERY 250 HOURS)
• The air filter of the hydraulic tank can be reached by opening the
engine bonnets. It is placed on top of the tank (b picture 33).
• Clean the perimeter and base of the filtering cartridge.
• Unscrew it by turning it anticlockwise.
• Manually screw in a new cartridge with a 25 µ filtering rate.
9•2•4 EMPTYING THE HYDRAULIC TANK
IMPORTANT !
This operation may only be performed if you
have a filtering unit fitted with a 25 µ filtering cartridge (Etesia
ref. 29977).
If you do not have the required tools or knowledge, contact your dealer.
Gravity draining :
- Remove the cutting device (see paragraph 8•11).
- Place a container with a capacity of over 35 litres underneath the
tank.
- Unscrew the plug located on the bottom of the tank with an
hexagon key.
- Remove air filter to enable air intake during oil drainage.
- Let the oil drain out completely before you put back the plug.
- Change the tank air and oil filters.
- Fit the air filter only when the oil refill has been completed.
- Fill the tank with HV46 type oil using the ltering unit (see
paragraph 9•2•1). Etesia recommends SHELL Tellus T 46, ref.
29592 (2 litre can).
CAUTION ! In the event of a leak, hydraulic uid can have sufcient
force to penetrate the skin and cause serious injury. Medical assistance
must be sought immediately.
9•3 MAINTENANCE OF THE BATTERY
9•3•1
MAINTENANCE OF THE 12 V BATTERY
• The 12 V battery is located under the front middle step cover (pic-
ture 34).
- Unscrew the four screws by a quarter turn with a screwdriver or
the key-chain of the ignition key (picture 34).
- Lift and remove the battery cover.
• This lead-acid battery requires very little maintenance. The level
of the electrolyte should be checked every 50 hours, and should
always lie over the elements. The level of the electrolyte in the cells
can be checked without removing the battery, by opening the front
middle step cover.
• If the electrolyte level in a charged battery is close to the “minimum”
marker, add distilled water up to the level of the “maximum” marker.
Never overfill the battery or add acid.
Wear the individual protection equipment that is necessary
while making the maintenance of the battery (safety
glasses, gloves…).
• Check that the battery terminals are not oxidised. If necessary, clean
the terminals and coat with special battery grease
.
WARNING ! If, for any reason, it is necessary to disconnect the
battery, always disconnect the negative terminal first, followed by
the positive terminal.
• In case of overfilling of the battery when topping up, rinse the
affected areas thoroughly to prevent corrosion.
9•3•2 CHARGING THE BATTERY
• Remove the battery from the mower by disconnecting first the
negative terminal and then the positive terminal.
• Check the electrolyte level. If necessary, top up with distilled water.
The level should be checked every 50 hours and must be between
the Mini and Maxi markers.
• Connect the battery to the charger.
- Charge voltage: 12 V
- Charging current: max. 3 A per hour
- Charge time : up to 20 hours for a completely discharged battery
and less according to need.
• Lead-acid batteries emit explosive gas mixtures during charging.
Avoid naked flames and sparks and do not smoke. The battery
should always be charged in a well-ventilated area.
• The battery contains sulphuric acid which is highly dangerous and
liable to cause serious injury upon contact with the skin. Extreme
care should therefore always be taken.
