9•1 ENGINE MAINTENANCE
9•1•1 CHECK OIL LEVEL BEFORE EACH USAGE
• Position the mower of a flat surface.
• Open the engine covers forwards (picture 11).
• Clean the area around the dipstick.
• Remove the dipstick (b picture 24).
• The level should remain between the “MINI” and “MAXI”
markers at all times (picture 25).
If necessary, top up with diesel engine oil 15W40 ref. ETESIA
29591 (2 l can).
Do not fill beyond the “MAXI” marker.
9•1•2 DRAINING THE ENGINE OIL
After the initial 50-hour service, the oil must be changed every 250
hours or at least once a year for H124DN, H124DX and H124DL
models.
• Run the engine in order to heat the oil.
• Position the machine on a flat surface.
• Place the mobile bin in the highest emptying position.
• Lock it in that position with the locking system provided for that
purpose.
- Clip off the connecting rods of the lower raising arms by turning
them.
- Clip them onto the rods of the raising cylinder (picture 26).
• Stop the engine and remove the ignition key. Use protective gloves.
• Unscrew the three fastening screws of the draining trap cover (a
picture 27).
• Place a container underneath the trap (b picture 27).
• Unscrew the drain plug and drain the used oil into the container.
• Clean and put back the draining plug.
• Open the engine bonnets.
• Clean the area around the filler neck to prevent dirt from entering
the engine.
• Slowly pour in the new fuel engine oil (capacity: see technical
characteristics) (pictures 28a to 28c). For models H124DN,
H124DX and H124DL, Etesia recommends SHELL Rimula X
15W40.
• Check the oil level using the dipstick. The level should reach but
not exceed the “MAXI” marker.
WARNING ! Special care should be taken when draining hot oil.
DO NOT TOUCH the silencer, cylinder or cooling fins as these may
cause burns.
• Make sure that the draining screw is tight and close the access trap
cover.
• Dispose of used oil at an approved collection point.
9•1•3 ENGINE OIL FILTER CHANGE
(A PICTURE 24)
• Change lters during each engine oil change.
• Before placing the new filter oil the gasket with clean oil.
• Tighten the new filter by hand up to the gasket do water tightness.
Then add 1/2 or 3/4 revolution more.
• Start the engine and let run.
• Stop the engine and check the tightness. Check the oil level and top
up if necessary.
9•1•4 AIR FILTER (PICTURE 29)
Clean the filter every 250 hours. In dusty environments, the interval
between cleaning or replacement should be reduced.
• Open the clamps and remove the cover (a).
• Remove the main cartridge (b) of the air filter.
• Tap the element on a flat surface to remove dust.
• If the element is very dirty, replace it.
• Replace the element every 1000 hours or at least once a year.
WARNING ! Do not use solvents or petrol to clean the paper
element. Do not soak in oil.
9•1•5 DIESEL FILTER (C PICTURE 12)
• If your engine lacks power or runs irregularly, it could be due to the
petrol filter being fouled. It is then necessary to change it.
• However, it is recommended to replace this filter every 250 hours
or at least once each year, even if it seems to be in serviceable
condition.
• Types of pollutants :
- Detritus in the diesel
- Exterior pollution (dust, grass, water…)
- Water condensation
9•1•6 WATER COOLING SYSTEM
The engine is water-cooled. Regularly check the level of the liquid
(picture 30).
• Before each using, check if the radiator grids are not blocked by
grass or other debris (a picture 31). Clean if necessary.
• Clean the engine cover grid regularly (b picture 31), more times per
day in dry condition.
• Draining the cooling liquid every 1000 hours or at least once every
two years to avoid the liquid oxidation.
WARNING ! If the engine has run, the grid is hot, use gloves.
• Removal of the radiator protection grid (picture 32).
- Loosen the lock by turning it (1 picture 32).
- Remove the grid by tilting it forward and pulling it upwards (2
picture 32).
- Clean the grid by tapping it lightly on a hard surface, or by using a
blower or a brush.
NOTE : The surface between the lock and the radiator plate must be
greased regularly.
WARNING ! Clean the area around the silencer regularly to
remove grass, dust and inflammable debris.
Do not attempt to carry out major repairs unless you are equipped
with the appropriate tools and are suitably skilled in the repair of
internal combustion engines.
9•2 MAINTENANCE OF THE
TRANSMISSION
• When carrying out work on the transmission system, always
switch off the engine and remove the ignition key. Use the
circuit-breaker to turn off the electric supply. Close the hand brake.
• Regularly check the level of the hydraulic oil in the tank underneath
the central bonnet.
• Before each use, make sure that the forward / back pedals are
operating correctly. The pedals must come back to the neutral
position (starting position) when released.
In bad weather conditions and in case of UV exposition, technical
specification of hydraulic pipes can be damaged. In order to ensure
rupture and abrasion resistance as well as a constant pressure, we
recommend you to change all pipes every 5 years. This operation has
to be done by your dealer.
