Troubleshooting (continued)
Problem Solution Probable Cause
The pump hums but does not run. The voltage is incorrect. Check all electrical connections for
security.
Have an electrician measure the cur-
rent in the motor leads. If the current is
within ±20% of locked rotor Amps, the
impeller is probably locked. If the current
is 0, overload may be tripped. Remove
power, allow the pump to cool, then
recheck the current.
The impeller is jammed or loose on the
shaft. Or the impeller cavity is worn or
damaged, or the or inlet is plugged.
Check the impeller for freedom of operation,
security, and condition. Clean the impeller
cavity and inlet of any obstruction.
The pump delivers insufcient capacity. The voltage is incorrect. Check all electrical connections for
security.

the power, allow the pump to cool, then

There is excessive inow or the pump is not
properly sized for the application.
Recheck all sizing calculations to determine
proper pump size.
The discharge is restricted. Check the discharge line for restrictions,
including ice.
The check valve is stuck closed or installed
backwards.
Remove and examine the check valve for
proper installation and freedom of operation.
The shut-off valve is closed. Open the valve.
The impeller is jammed or loose, the shaft is
worn or damaged, or the impeller cavity or
inlet is plugged.
Check the impeller for freedom of operation,
security, and condition. Clean the impeller
cavity and inlet of any obstruction.
The pump may be airlocked. Loosen the union slightly to allow trapped
air to escape.
