Summit WM Technical Reference Guide, Software Version 5.1140
When a certain deployment area displays poor performance or undergoes significant changes (for
example, new furniture or re-arrangement of cubicles, etc.) it is important to re-run ACS for all Wireless
APs in that particular area. To do so, on the WAP Multi-edit screen select the Wireless APs in the area
of interest, select Auto from the Channel drop-down list, and then click Save. This triggers ACS on all
Wireless APs in that area simultaneously.
4 – Using ACS to optimize an existing deployment
As time passes, the RF environment continues to change, so it is worth to periodically re-optimize the
channel arrangement. To do so, ensure that all Wireless APs are connected to the Summit WM
Controller and then, on the WAP Multi-edit screen select all the Wireless APs, select Auto from the
Channel drop-down list, and then click Save. This triggers ACS on all Wireless APs simultaneously.
Automatic Transmit Power Control (ATPC) overview
If used properly, ATPC can significantly improve the reliability of the network by monitoring the RF
environment and adjusting the Tx power of the Wireless APs in order to compensate for changes in the
RF environment. For example:
If an obstructing object is installed in a room, one or more of the neighboring Wireless APs will
increase their power to compensate.
If a room that was empty fills with people, the Wireless APs in the room and in the neighboring
rooms will increase their power to compensate.
If one or more Wireless APs go out of service, neighboring Wireless APs will increase their power in
an attempt to fill in the coverage hole.
