Why does my Fisher Research Labs Metal Detector chatter or beep erratically?

  If your Fisher Research Labs Metal Detector chatters, beeps erratically, or has low sensitivity, it could be due to several factors. First, make sure you are using the detector outdoors. Using it indoors can cause interference. Also, move away from power lines. If you are using two detectors, keep them at least 6 meters (20’) apart. Finally, environmental electromagnetic interference may be the cause. In this case, reduce the sensitivity until the erratic signals cease.

  If your Fisher Research Labs Metal Detector display doesn't lock onto a Target-ID or emits multiple tones, it might be due to multiple targets being present. Try sweeping the coil at different angles. Another cause could be highly mineralized soil, so try moving to a different area. Also, the sensitivity might be set too high; try reducing it.
