Overview

This document is a Use & Care Manual for a Frigidaire Dishwasher. It provides comprehensive information on the appliance's features, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Function Description:

The Frigidaire Dishwasher is designed to clean soiled dishes by spraying a mixture of hot water and detergent through spray arms. The wash system involves filling the tub with water, pumping it through spray arms to remove soil particles, filtering the water, and then draining it. This process is repeated as needed, with the number of water fills varying depending on the selected cycle. The dishwasher is equipped with energy-efficient motors for both wash and drain portions of the cycle.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Electrical Requirements: Operates on regular house current (120V, 60Hz). Requires a 15-ampere fuse or circuit breaker, or a 20-ampere fuse if connected with a food disposer.
  • Water Temperature: Optimal performance requires incoming hot water at or near 120°F (49°C). The SANITIZE option raises the final rinse water temperature to 156°F (69°C). The HI-TEMP WASH option heats water in the main wash to approximately 140°F (60°C).
  • Water Pressure: The hot water line must provide water pressure between 20 and 120 psi.
  • Detergent Usage: Amount of detergent depends on water hardness, measured in grains per gallon. A chart is provided for soft (0-3 grains), medium hard (4-8 grains), hard (9-12 grains), and very hard (over 12 grains) water.
  • Rinse Aid Capacity: The rinse aid dispenser holds enough for 35 to 140 washes, depending on the dial setting.
  • Cycle Durations (approximate):
    • Power Plus: 2 - 3 1/2 Hours (7.3 - 9.6 gal / 28 - 36 L)
    • Normal Wash: 1 1/2 - 3 Hours (3.4 - 6.9 gal / 13 - 26 L)
    • Quick Wash: 34 Min. (Air Dry Only) (5.4 gal / 20 L)
    • China Crystal: 1 1/2 - 2 Hours (6.0 gal / 23 L)
    • Top Rack: 1 1/4 - 3 Hours (4.9 - 6.9 gal / 19 - 26 L)
    • Energy Saver: 1 1/2 - 2 Hours (4.8 - 5.8 gal / 18 - 22 L)
    • Rinse Only: 16 Min. (Air Dry Only) (2.5 gal / 9 L)
  • DishSense™ Technology: Automatically adjusts cycle duration based on soil level for Power Plus, Normal Wash, Top Rack, and Energy Saver cycles.

Usage Features:

  • Wash Cycle Selections: Includes Power Plus, Normal Wash, Quick Wash, China Crystal, Top Rack, Energy Saver, and Rinse Only. Cycle times are approximate and can vary with selected options and water temperature.
  • Option Selections:
    • Hi-Temp Wash: Heats water to 140°F (60°C) for better grease and soil removal, and aids drying. Available on Power Plus, Normal Wash, and Top Rack cycles. Automatically provided with Power Plus.
    • Heat Dry/Air Dry: HEAT DRY enhances drying, especially with rinse aid. AIR DRY deactivates the heater during drying, reducing energy use but potentially leaving dishes less dry.
    • Sahara Dry™: Extends drying time by approximately 20 minutes for best drying performance. Recommended with HI-TEMP WASH or SANITIZE options. Not available with CHINA CRYSTAL, ENERGY SAVER, or RINSE ONLY cycles.
    • Sanitize Option: Raises final rinse water to 156°F (69°C) for sanitization. Available on Power Plus, Normal Wash, and Top Rack cycles. Meets NSF requirements.
    • Favorite Cycle: Allows programming a preferred cycle and options into one button for quick selection.
    • Delay Start: Delays cycle start for 1-24 hours.
  • Controls: START/CANCEL pad to initiate or cancel cycles. Child Lock feature to prevent accidental changes to settings by pressing and holding DELAY START for 3 seconds.
  • Status Indicators: Console lights show cycle selection and current status. A "Clean" light illuminates at cycle completion. A "Sanitized" light indicates successful sanitization. A STATUS window (on some models) displays delay start hours or remaining cycle minutes.
  • Loading Flexibility:
    • Upper Rack: Designed for cups, glasses, stemware, small plates, and bowls. Can be adjusted (raised or lowered) by pressing a lever. Some models have fold-down cup shelves/stemware holders for loading two levels of items.
    • Bowl Tines: Offer flexibility for loading saucers, small dishes, or casseroles.
    • Lower Rack: Best for plates, saucers, bowls, and cookware. Fold-down tines allow for loading extra-large items, pots, or pans.
    • Silverware Basket: Can be loaded in the bottom rack or on a counter. Some models have lids for small items. Sharp items should be loaded pointing down.
  • Adding a Dish: Items can be added after a cycle starts by unlatching the door, waiting for wash action to stop, adding the item, and then closing the door firmly.

Maintenance Features:

  • Detergent Dispenser: Has two cups for pre-wash and main wash. Use fresh automatic dishwashing detergent. Tablets or packets should be placed in the main wash cup.
  • Rinse Aid Dispenser: Located next to the detergent cup. Refill when the indicator shows clear. Adjust dial for desired amount of rinse aid.
  • Glass Trap: Located in the center of the filter, designed to collect broken glass, straws, bones, and pits. To empty, rotate the handle 90° clockwise while pressing down on the wash arm, then lift the assembly.
  • Overfill Protector: Located in the left front corner of the tub, keeps the dishwasher from overfilling. Should move freely and be cleaned occasionally with vinegar or bleach.
  • Cleaning:
    • Outer Door: Clean with warm soapy water and a soft cloth.
    • Inside: Self-cleaning with normal use. Tub gasket area can be cleaned with a damp cloth.
    • Removing Spots and Film: For hard water lime deposit buildup, run a NORMAL WASH cycle with clean dishes and glasses (no metal utensils), then add 2 cups of white vinegar to the bottom of the dishwasher during the second water fill (approx. 8 minutes).
  • Drain Air Gap: If installed, check to ensure it is clean for proper drainage.
  • Winterizing: For dishwashers in unheated places, disconnect electrical power, shut off water supply, drain water lines, and then reconnect when restoring service. Run a HEAVY WASH/POWER PLUS cycle after restoring service.

Safety Instructions:

  • Always read the manual before use.
  • Use only as instructed.
  • Ensure proper electrical grounding.
  • Do not operate without enclosure panels.
  • Remove door/latch mechanism from discarded dishwashers.
  • Keep children away during operation and do not allow them to play on the door or racks.
  • Use only recommended detergents and rinse agents; store out of reach of children.
  • Wash only "Dishwasher Safe" plastic items.
  • Disconnect power before servicing.
  • Empty food disposer completely if draining into it.
  • Repairs by qualified technicians only.
  • Do not tamper with controls.
  • Avoid touching the heating element during or immediately after a cycle.
  • Use care when unloading after SANITIZE option, as contents may be hot.
  • Be cautious of hot water vapor from the vent when SANITIZE option is selected.
  • Load sharp items and knives with handles up to reduce injury risk and prevent damage to door seal or tub.
  • If hot water system has not been used for 2 weeks or more, turn on hot water for several minutes before using the dishwasher to release accumulated hydrogen gas, which is explosive and flammable. Do not smoke or use open flames during this time.
  • Do not store or use combustible materials near the appliance.
