Overview

This document is a user and care manual for a Frigidaire dishwasher, model A21513101 (December 2021). It provides comprehensive information on operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting the appliance.

Function Description:

The Frigidaire dishwasher is designed to clean dishware by spraying a mixture of hot water and detergent against soiled surfaces. The cleaning process involves several steps: the dishwasher first fills with water to cover the filter area, then pumps water through spray arms. Soil particles are directed across the filter and down the drain as water is pumped out. This series of steps is repeated as needed, with the number of water fills varying depending on the selected cycle. The dishwasher incorporates DishSense™ Technology, which assesses the soil level on dishes and adjusts the cycle accordingly, optimizing cleaning performance.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Electrical Requirements: Operates on regular house current (120V, 60Hz). Requires a circuit equipped with a 15-ampere fuse or circuit breaker. If connected to a food disposer, a 20-ampere fuse is required.
  • Water Pressure: The hot water line to the dishwasher must provide water pressure between 20 and 120 psi for optimal performance.
  • Water Temperature: Hot water is crucial for effective dishwashing and drying. The incoming water temperature should be at least 120°F (49°C) for satisfactory results. For the Sanitize option, the final rinse water temperature is raised to 156°F (69°C).
  • Detergent Dispenser: Features two detergent cups: a smaller one for pre-wash and a larger one for the main wash.
  • Rinse Aid Dispenser: Automatically releases a measured amount of rinse aid during the last rinse. It holds enough for 35 to 140 washes, depending on the dial setting.
  • Cycle Water Usage (Approximate):
    • Heavy Wash: 7.1 - 9.4 gallons (27 - 36 L)
    • Normal Wash: 3.2 - 9.2 gallons (12 - 35 L)
    • Quick Wash: 5.4 gallons (20 L)
    • Energy Saver: 4.8 - 5.8 gallons (18 - 22 L)
    • Rinse Only: 2.5 gallons (9 L)
  • Cycle Time (Approximate):
    • Heavy Wash: 2¼ - 4 hours
    • Normal Wash: 1¼ - 4 hours
    • Quick Wash: 34 minutes (Air Dry Only)
    • Energy Saver: 1½ - 2 hours
    • Rinse Only: ¼ hour (Air Dry Only)

Usage Features:

  • Wash Cycle Selections:
    • Heavy Wash: Recommended for heavily soiled pots, pans, casseroles, and dinnerware.
    • Normal Wash: Recommended for lightly to heavily soiled loads, offering the best all-around performance with factory default options (normal temperature and heated dry).
    • Quick Wash: Recommended for lightly soiled loads only.
    • Energy Saver: Recommended for lightly soiled loads, designed for energy efficiency.
    • Rinse Only: For rinsing dishware that will be washed later.
  • Temperature Options (Wash Temp):
    • Normal: Default temperature option.
    • High Wash Temp: Heats main wash water to approximately 140°F (60°C) for more effective cleaning of greasy/soiled dishes and improved drying. Available on Heavy Wash and Normal Wash cycles.
    • Sanitize: Raises final rinse water to 156°F (69°C) to sanitize dishes and glassware, meeting NSF requirements. Available on Heavy Wash and Normal Wash cycles.
  • Drying Options (Dry):
    • Heat Dry: Default option, enhances drying, especially with rinse aid.
    • MaxBoost™: Extends drying time by approximately 20 minutes for best drying performance. Can be combined with High Wash Temp or Sanitize for even better results. Not available on China Crystal, Energy Saver, and Rinse Only cycles.
    • Air Dry: Deactivates the heater during the drying phase, lowering energy use but potentially resulting in less complete drying.
  • Delay Time: Allows delaying the start of a wash cycle by 2, 4, or 6 hours.
  • Control Lock: Locks dishwasher controls to prevent accidental starts or changes to the wash cycle, useful for households with children.
  • START/Cancel Button: Initiates a selected cycle and options. Can also be used to cancel a running or delayed cycle by pressing and holding for 3 seconds, which initiates a 90-second drain.
  • Status Indicator Lights: LEDs on the console and floor (Green Light for complete, Blue Light for operating) provide information on cycle selection and current status. Console lights can be turned off during operation if desired.
  • Adjustable Upper Rack: The upper rack can be raised or lowered to accommodate various item sizes, providing flexibility in loading.
  • Silverware Basket: Can be loaded while in the bottom rack or removed for loading on a counter. Features covered sections for small items.

Maintenance Features:

  • Filter Cleaning: Filters need regular cleaning to maximize wash performance. The manual recommends a cleaning schedule.
  • Glass Trap: Located in the center of the filter, designed to collect larger food particles, broken glass, straws, bones, and pits. Instructions are provided for removal and emptying.
  • Overfill Protector: Located in the left front corner of the tub, it prevents overfilling. Should move freely and can be cleaned to remove buildup.
  • Exterior Cleaning: The outer door can be cleaned with warm soapy water and a soft cloth. Harsh cleaners should be avoided.
  • Interior Cleaning: The inside of the dishwasher and filter are self-cleaning with normal use. The tub gasket area can be cleaned with a damp cloth.
  • Hard Water Spot/Film Removal: Instructions are provided for removing lime deposit buildup and film using white vinegar.
  • Drain Air Gap: If installed, the drain air gap should be checked and cleaned to ensure proper drainage.
  • Winterizing: Instructions for disconnecting and restoring service to protect the dishwasher from freezing in unheated areas. This involves turning off electrical power and water supply, and draining water from the inlet valve and pump.
