Do you have a question about the Fromm P330 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The device is a battery-powered plastic strapping tool, specifically the FROMM Model P330, designed for strapping packages with plastic strapping. It automates the tensioning, friction welding, and separation of the strap after manual or feeder-assisted placement around a package.

Function Description

The P330 tool is used to apply plastic strapping to packages. After the strap is manually or automatically fed around the package, it is inserted into the tool. The tool then automatically tensions the strap to a preselected force, seals the joint using friction welding, and cuts off the excess strap. An LED indicator system provides feedback on battery charge, tensioning, welding, and cooling processes. The tool is designed for efficient and reliable strapping operations.

Important Technical Specifications

    • Sound power level: 92 dB (A)
    • Deviation K: 2.5 dB
  • Vibration Information:
    • Weighted effective value of acceleration: less than 2.5 m/s²
    • Deviation K: 0.6 m/s²
  • Strap Material: PET (Polyester) and PP (Polypropylene), plain or embossed. The manufacturer recommends using only specified plastic straps.
  • Strap Dimensions:
    • Width: 19.0 - 25.0 mm (3/4 - 1")
    • Thickness: 0.40 - 1.53 mm (.016 - .060")
    • The tool requires plastic straps with correct dimensions for proper operation.
  • Strap Tension:
    • Tensioning force: Adjustable from 1200 - max. 6000 N (270 - max. 1350 lbs). The value depends on strap quality.
    • Tensioning speed: Approx. 70 - 87 mm/s (2.76 - 3.43 inch/sec).
    • Joint strength: Approx. 75% of the tensile strength of the plastic strap.
  • Working Temperature:
    • Ambient temperature: -10° to 45° C (14° to 113°F)
    • Best performance: 15° to 20°C (59° to 68°F)

Usage Features

  • Battery Operation: The tool is cordless, offering flexibility in various work environments. The battery status can be checked via a four-step LED indicator. A red blinking LED indicates a low battery, locking all electric functions until recharged.
  • Adjustments: Tensioning force and welding time are adjustable via knobs. The tensioning force can be preselected from 1200 N to 6000 N, and tensioning speed adjusts concurrently. Welding time can also be adjusted to ensure optimal seal efficiency.
  • Strap Feeding and Insertion: Straps are fed around the package and then inserted into the tool by pulling up the handle lever. It is crucial that the plastic strap is clean and free from oil, grease, or dirt to ensure proper welding.
  • Tensioning and Sealing: Tensioning is initiated by pressing the tension button. The LED lights green during tensioning. Once the desired tension is reached, the sealing lever is pressed down to initiate friction welding and strap cutting. A yellow LED indicates the cooling time, during which the tool must not be removed from the strap to ensure sufficient seal efficiency. A green LED signals the completion of the sealing cycle.
  • Safety Features: General safety rules emphasize keeping the work area clean, avoiding explosive atmospheres, and keeping bystanders away. Electrical safety guidelines include matching plugs to outlets, avoiding body contact with earthed surfaces, and protecting the tool from rain or wet conditions. Personal safety involves wearing eye protection, maintaining proper footing, and avoiding loose clothing near moving parts. Strap-specific warnings include using edge protectors for sharp load corners, positioning oneself to the side of the strap during tensioning and sealing, and using appropriate strap quality and dimensions.
  • Accessories: The tool can be equipped with a wearing plate (P33.0121) for protection when used on hard or rough surfaces. A suspension bracket (P32.0112 for normal position, P33.0120 for alternating positions) allows for stationary use with a spring-loaded balancer. A turning button kit (P32.2061) is available for fine adjustment of tension force and welding time.

Maintenance Features

  • Battery Care: The battery is delivered uncharged and must be charged before use. Charging a damaged battery is prohibited. Batteries should be stored in dry, frost-proof rooms, and not exposed to temperatures above 50°C.
  • Wearing Parts Exchange: The manual provides detailed instructions for exchanging wearing parts such as the tensioning wheel, grippers, cutter, welding stop gripper, and welding gripper. This includes steps for disassembling and reassembling components, along with lubrication requirements (e.g., Molykote BR2 plus for the tensioning wheel, Klüber Isoflex NBU 15 for the rocker and welding jaw, Mobilux EP2 for the cutter and driver).
  • Coupler Adjustment: The coupler is factory-adjusted, but requires readjustment if the seesaw lever, coupler, or lever body is replaced. The procedure involves loosening and retightening a screw to ensure the thrust piece touches the seesaw levers and guide pins are correctly seated.
  • Service: Servicing and repair work must only be carried out by authorized FROMM service centers. The manufacturer recommends servicing the tool after 12 months for single-shift use, or sooner for multi-shift operations.
  • Cleaning: Tensioning and sealing parts should be regularly cleaned from strap abrasion using compressed air. Water or aggressive solvents should not be used for cleaning the tool's surface.
  • Disposal: Used batteries should not be disposed of in household refuse or water. FROMM distributors offer an environmentally friendly battery disposal service. The machine, accessories, and packaging should be sorted for environmental-friendly recycling, adhering to European Guideline 2002/96/EC for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment.
