1. INSTALLATION
1.1 Installation Considerations
Install the rack console where the equipment in the console can be easily operated,
checked and serviced. Consult with shipyard personnel and ship’s officer-in-charge to
determine best location. The location must satisfy the following points:
• Observe the compass safe distances in the "SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS" on page i
to prevent interference to a magnetic compass.
• Consider relation to other equipment near the console.
• Leave sufficient space around the unit for maintenance and servicing. See the con-
sole outline drawing for recommended maintenance space.
• Select a location where the vibration is minimal.
• Locate the console away from places subject to water splash and rain.
• The temperature and humidity of the location should be both stable and moderate.
• If the rack console is to be installed in the radio room, the units shown below must
be installed on the bridge.
• Distress Alert/Received Call Unit: IC-305
• Alarm Unit: IC-306
• SSAS Alert Unit: IC-307
• The recommended torques for the screws used in the system are as shown in the
table below.

Do not apply paint, anti-corrosive sealant or contact spray to
coating or plastic parts of the equipment.
Those items contain organic solvents that can damage coating and
plastic parts, especially plastic connectors.
