Why does my Garrett AT Gold Metal Detector make erratic sounds?
    • N
      Natalie JoyceJul 26, 2025
Erratic sounds or target ID cursor movement can occur if you are using the Garrett Metal Detector indoors because of excessive electrical interference and metal in floors and walls. Ensure your searchcoil is securely connected and the coil cable is snugly wound around the stem. Also, check if you are near power lines, wire fences, or other metal structures. Try adjusting the frequency or reducing the sensitivity setting.

Why am I not finding specific targets with my Garrett AT Gold?
    • D
      Dr. Megan RossJul 31, 2025
If you are not finding specific targets with your Garrett Metal Detector, ensure you are using the correct mode for the type hunting you are doing. If specifically hunting for U.S. coins, DISC 2 mode should be your best choice to eliminate other undesirable targets. The ALL METAL or DISC 1 modes will detect all metal targets to ensure desired targets are detected.

What causes intermittent signals on my Garrett Metal Detector?
    • L
      lynn36Aug 8, 2025
Intermittent signals on your Garrett Metal Detector usually indicate a deeply buried target or one positioned at a difficult angle. You can try scanning from different directions to better define the signal. Remember that iron targets can also cause intermittent signals; use the Iron Audio feature to help identify them.

Why does my Garrett AT Gold Metal Detector make erratic sounds or show erratic target ID cursor movement?
    • L
      Lisa BuchananAug 12, 2025
Erratic sounds or target ID cursor movement can occur due to several reasons. Ensure your searchcoil is securely connected and the coil cable is snugly wound around the stem. If you are using the detector indoors, be aware that excessive amounts of electrical interference exists, plus excessive amounts of metal can be found in floors and walls. Determine if you are close to other metal detectors or other metal structures such as electrical power lines, wire fences, benches, etc. You can also try adjusting the frequency or reducing your sensitivity setting.

What to do if the Target ID Cursor bounces on my Garrett Metal Detector?
    • A
      Amber PowellAug 17, 2025
If your Garrett Metal Detector's Target ID Cursor bounces erratically, it is likely you've found an iron target. A Target ID Cursor may bounce if a good target (such as a coin) is not parallel to the searchcoil. It may also bounce if there is one or multiple “junk” targets laying next to the good target. Try scanning from different directions until your Target ID Cursor becomes more stable. You can use the Iron Audio feature to help identify iron targets, especially large, flat pieces of iron.

      Joseph DanielAug 21, 2025
If you are getting intermittent signals on your Garrett Metal Detector, it may be due to a deeply buried target or difficult angle. Try scanning from different directions to help define the signal.
