11.24 Removing the air filter
Note
Engine damage Unfiltered intake air has a negative effect on the service life of the engine.
Dust and dirt will enter the engine without an air filter.
– Only operate the vehicle if it is equipped with an air filter.
Note
Environmental hazard Hazardous substances cause environmental damage.
– Dispose of oils, grease, filters, fuel, cleaning agents, brake fluid, etc., correctly and in compliance with the appli-
cable regulations.
Preparatory work

Remove the air filter box cover. ( p. 57)

– Remove air filter with air filter support.
– Remove air filter from air filter support.
11.25 Cleaning the air filter and air filter box
Note

Do not clean the air filter with fuel or petroleum since these substances attack the foam.

Main work
– Wash the air filter thoroughly in special cleaning liquid and allow it
to dry properly.
Air filter cleaner ( p. 131)
Info
Only press the air filter to dry it, never wring it out.
– Oil the dry air filter with a high-grade air filter oil.
Oil for foam air filter ( p. 131)
– Clean the air filter box.
– Clean the intake flange and check it for damage and tightness.
