To troubleshoot a GE Card Reader when the door doesn't open and the green LED doesn't light upon presenting an ISO 15963 or ISO 14443A card, first, check that the door strike and the green LED are correctly wired. Also, ensure the access card is entered and the reader is properly configured within the host system.

Why is the green LED always on on my GE Card Reader?

If the green LED on your GE Card Reader is always on, disconnect the wire on JP1 pin 7. If the LED turns off, the issue likely isn't the reader itself. Reconnect the wire and measure the voltage at JP1 pin 7. A low voltage (0 to 2 VDC) lights the green LED, suggesting either a short to ground in the wiring or the host system energizing the door strike.

How to troubleshoot GE Card Reader when none of the LEDs are on?
    • P
      psandersAug 16, 2025
To troubleshoot a GE Card Reader with no LEDs lit, present a known-good ISO 15963 or ISO 14443A card while listening for the beeper. If it beeps, the reader is faulty and needs replacement. If there's no beep, check the power connections to the reader and ensure the reader supply voltage at connector JP1 pin 3 is correct and the ground connection JP1 pin 2 is secure.
