Also, note that after a power failure, the unit will restart with the previous settings, but there's a 3-minute protective delay for the compressor. Finally, if your unit has a current interrupter device, try pressing the RESET button on the power cord plug. If the reset button doesn't stay engaged, stop using the air conditioner and contact a qualified technician.

  If your GE Air Conditioner isn't cooling as expected, several factors could be the cause. Check that curtains, blinds, or furniture aren't blocking the front of the unit, restricting airflow. Ensure the temperature control is set appropriately; try turning it to a higher number. A dirty air filter can also reduce cooling efficiency, so clean the filter at least every 30 days. If the room was initially hot, allow time for it to cool down after turning on the air conditioner. Also, check for open furnace registers or cold air returns that may be allowing cold air to escape. If the cooling coils have iced up, refer to the section on 'Air conditioner freezing up'.
