Why Gehl Construction Equipment engine does not turn over?
    • M
      Matthew LewisAug 3, 2025
If the Gehl Construction Equipment engine won't turn over, make sure the drive direction switch is in neutral. Check and reset any tripped circuit breakers, and replace any blown fuses. Ensure the battery is charged or replace it if necessary. The operator's seat must be occupied for the engine to start. Verify that the battery disconnect switch is in the closed position and replace it if it's malfunctioning. Replace the seat switch if it's faulty. Also, ensure that you are in the operator's seat, the parking brake is applied, and, on later machines, the auxiliary hydraulics pressure relief valve lever is in neutral.

What to do if Gehl Construction Equipment engine turns over but will not start?
    • T
      Tracey WalkerAug 7, 2025
If your Gehl Construction Equipment engine turns over but doesn't start, check the battery and charge or replace it if needed, and tighten the battery terminals. Ensure the fuel tank isn't empty and vent the fuel system if necessary. Replace a plugged fuel filter and use winter-grade diesel fuel to prevent paraffin separation in winter. Tighten any leaking fuel line connections and clamps. Inspect the glow plug module connections and voltage, replacing it if necessary. Check the electrical connections and voltage to the fuel shut-off solenoid. If the fuel filter is restricted, replace it. If the fuel pump malfunctions, contact your dealer.

Why is my Gehl Construction Equipment engine overheating?
    • R
      Rita BurtonAug 12, 2025
If your Gehl Construction Equipment engine is overheating, first adjust the crankcase oil level to the correct level. Ensure that the cooling air circulation is not restricted by removing any obstructions with the engine off. For an improperly positioned fan shroud, contact your dealer. Change the engine oil if the grade is improper or if the oil is excessively dirty, referring to the manual for the proper oil grade. Allow the exhaust to cool and remove any restrictions. Replace any restricted air filters. Add coolant if the level is low. Tighten a loose fan belt. Clean a dirty radiator. Finally, replace the thermostat if it is malfunctioning.

What to do if Gehl AL 140 Construction Equipment engine is running but loader will not drive?
    • D
      Donald MendozaAug 16, 2025
If the Gehl Construction Equipment engine is running but the loader won't drive, first release the parking brake. If that doesn't work, replace the parking brake switch if it's malfunctioning. Check the circuit and replace any blown fuses. If the joystick drive direction slider switch is malfunctioning, replace the joystick handle. For AL 400/500 Series models, check the drive controller error code. Ensure the operator is in the seat.

Why Gehl AL 140 Construction Equipment hydraulics do not work or work only at a low performance level?
    • P
      Paige FoxAug 21, 2025
If the hydraulics on your Gehl Construction Equipment aren't working or are performing poorly, start by adding hydraulic fluid if the level is low. Allow for a longer warm-up period to ensure the hydraulic fluid is warm enough. For a damaged engine to pump coupling or hydraulic pump, pressure limiting valves set too low or damaged, a damaged hydraulic cylinder, or damaged control valves, contact your dealer. Adjust the engine speed, referring to the manual for guidance. Replace dirty or restricted air filters. Change the fuel if the grade is incorrect, consulting the manual for the proper fuel grade.

Why Gehl AL 140 Construction Equipment lift and/or tilt functions too slow?
    • J
      Julia WilliamsAug 26, 2025
If the lift and/or tilt functions on your Gehl Construction Equipment are too slow, increase the engine speed. Add hydraulic oil if the level is low and check for leaks. For hydraulic oil leaking past cylinder piston seals or a hydraulic pump malfunction, contact your dealer.

What to do if Gehl AL 140 travel drive will not operate in either direction?
    • M
      Matthew TaylorAug 29, 2025
If the travel drive on your Gehl Construction Equipment won't operate in either direction, first release the parking brake. Add oil if the hydraulic oil level is low. For low or no charge pressure, hydrostatic pump(s) relief valve malfunctions, contact your dealer. Check and release the brake/inch pedal if it is stuck or malfunctioning. Check and repair the throttle pedal linkage. Inspect the electrical connection and harness. For AL 100 Series, ensure the hydraulic tanks are evenly filled.
