GENERATOR MAINTENANCE
Propercare will ensuremaximum performanceof your generator.
Generatormaintenanceconsists of keepingthe unit clean and dry.
Operateand storethe unit in a cleandry environmentwhere itwill
not be exposedto excessivedust, dirt, moisture or any corrosive
vapors.
Coolingair slots in the generatormust not become clogged with
snow,leaves,or anyotherforeignmaterial.
Checkthe cleanlinessof the generatorfrequentlyandclean when
dust, dirt, oil, moistureor otherforeignsubstancesarevisible on
its exteriorsurface.
NOTE:
Never insert any object or toolthroughthe air coolingslots,
even ifthe engine is not running.
NOTE:
DO NOT use a garden hose to clean the generator. Water
can enter the engine fuel system and cause problems. In
addition, if water enters the generator throughcooling air
slots,somewaterwill be retainedin voidsand crevicesof the
rotor and statorwindinginsulation.Water and dirt buildup on
the generator internalwindingswill eventually decrease the
insulationresistanceof thesewindings.

* Perform initial oil changeafterthe first five (5) hours of operation
** Clean the air filter more often if operating in dusty or sandy
conditions. Replaceas necessary.
CLEANING THE GENERATOR
1. Usea damp cloth to wipe exteriorsurfaces clean.
2. A soft, bristle brushmay be usedto loosen cakedon dirt, oil,
etc.
3. A vacuum cleaner may be used to pick up loose dirt and
debris.
4. Low pressure air (not to exceed 25 psi) may be used to
blow away dirt. Inspect cooling air slots and openings
on the generator.These openings must be kept clean and
unobstructed.
5. Inspectthe vent hoses on the left side ofthe generator.Make
surethehoses protrudethroughthe slotsbelowthe door and
thatthe ends are openandfree of debris.
ENGINE MAINTENANCE
,&CAUTION!
,_ Only work on a generator that has cooled
completely.
Inspectthe oil levelandair filter condition eachtime you aregoing
to usethe generator.To checkthe airfilter and oil levelthe leftside
service cover must be removed; use a screwdriverto loosenthe
screw securingthe cover and remove.
Theair filter is locatedbehinda coverfor the air box(Figure10).
Pushthetab on the bottom of the air box upwardsto releasethe
cover.Toservicethe air cleaner:
1. Removethe air cleaner.Tapthe elementto shake loose any
largeparticles.
2. Wash the element in soapy water. Squeezethe filter dry in
cleancloth (DONOTTWIST).
3. Soakthefilter elementin cleanengineoil. Squeezethe excess
oil from the filter,leavinga lightcoating.
4. Cleanair cleaner housing and cover before re-installingthe
filter element.
