What to do if my Grizzly Lathe machine does not start or a breaker trips?
    • R
      richardsalexandraAug 20, 2025
If your Grizzly Lathe doesn't start or a breaker trips, try these solutions: Correct any shorts or replace the fuse on the control panel. Rotate the switch clockwise until it pops out, or replace it. Test for good contacts and correct the wiring. Inspect the computer board and replace it if faulty. Ensure hotlines have the correct voltage on all legs and the main power supply is switched ON. You may also need to replace the faulty ON button or ON/OFF switch. Turn the switch to FWD/REV, or replace the bad switch. Check for broken wires or disconnected/corroded connections, and repair or replace them as needed. As a last resort, test, repair, or replace any other potentially faulty components.

How to fix excessive vibration in my Grizzly G8688 Lathe?
    • J
      Jacqueline IngramAug 21, 2025
If your Grizzly Lathe vibrates excessively upon startup and while running, try the following: Reinstall the workpiece so it is centered with the spindle bore as much as possible. Tighten or replace the belt if necessary. Align the V-belt pulleys. Inspect the gears and replace them if needed. Rebalance the chuck or faceplate. Finally, replace the spindle bearings.

What to do if my Grizzly G8688 Lathe machine stalls or is underpowered?
    • X
      xwilliamsAug 25, 2025
If your Grizzly Lathe stalls or is underpowered, consider the following: Use metal with the correct properties for your type of machining. Inspect and replace the capacitor if faulty. Test and replace the start switch if faulty. Remove the brushes and clean or replace them. Replace any loose pulley or shaft. Test by rotating the shaft; rotational grinding or a loose shaft requires bearing replacement. Use sharp lathe bits or chisels at the correct angle; reduce the feed rate or depth of cut; use cutting fluid if possible. Turn the switch to FWD/OFF/REV, and replace the switch if it is bad.

How to stop my Grizzly G8688 cutting tool from vibrating?
    • H
      halladamAug 26, 2025
If your Grizzly Lathe's cutting tool or machine components vibrate excessively during cutting, check for debris, clean, and retighten. Reinstall the cutting tool so no more than 1/3 of its total length is sticking out of the tool holder. Tighten the gib screws at the affected component. Replace or resharpen the cutting tool. Use the recommended spindle speed.

Why is the handwheel hard to move on my Grizzly G8688 Lathe?
    • A
      Adrian OsborneSep 1, 2025
If the cross slide, compound slide, or carriage feed handwheel on your Grizzly Lathe is hard to move, remove the gibs, clean the ways/dovetails, lubricate, and readjust the gibs. Loosen the gib screws slightly and lubricate the bedways. Slightly loosen the backlash setting by loosening the locking screw and adjusting the spanner ring at the end of the handle. Lubricate the bedways and handles.
